Hi Ladies,
I am in the process of preparing myself for IVF in May and was wondering how common it was to receive at BFP on the first IVF cycle.
Those of you that respond to this can you please mention if it was male or female factor problems and if embies went to blasto stage or not.
Thanks very much
We had a positive on our first cycle - but still in the early days yet.
Problems where all mine;
Endo
Retro Uterus
and the biggy Early Menopause
we had a 2day transfer...
I ended up with 5 embies fert, with 2 transf... and none survived to freeze...
All the best..
Hi miracle. We were successful on our first IVF cycle. I am currently 8 weeks, so it is still early days for us as well.
My DH had low sperm morphology on his initial sperm test, but on the day that the eggs were to be fertilised he had great sperm (so not sure what happened with the initial test). I reckon that we most likely fall within the "unexplained infertility" category. They had a scan of my uterus and all was fine, but we didn't do a lap so I'm not sure if my tubes are blocked.
On the day, we had 8 eggs collected, but two were not mature and subsequently didn't fertilise. Out of the 6 that fertilised we had one blastocyst transferred (giving us our little "piglet") and 4 were frozen. 1 of the embies didn't make it to freezing.
We count ourselves as being very, very lucky to conceive first try. Good luck with everything.
I had a positive on my 1st cycle. infertility was my problem with scar tissue thru my tubes. trasfer was done day 2, I had 21 eggs, 9 fertalised 2 where transfered and 6 frozen.
We started trying again last nov for no. 2, I had 2 fet cycles both neg results so decided to go fresh again and also got a positive 1st go and am going into my 10th week of pregnancy. This cycle I had 12 eggs, 10 fertalised, 2 transfered and 5 frozen.
good luck

Hi there
I too have been sucessfull first go, although still early days, im now 7 weeks with little jelly bean, it has been a long journey, all probs were with me, i was diagnosed with pcos many years ago and was always told by doc's that i would eventually fall preg naturally, but you think after 6 years trying that something had to be done if we wanted a child of our own so we went to a fertility clinic and went from there, they took 17 eggies out of me after a couple of days they dropped down to 11 then 5 were frozen to blastocyst stage, i have 4 frozen waiting for mummy!! :) and little jelly bean is growing rapidly inside me now, i think that because ivf has been around for a couple of years now , i think over 10 but dont quote me, they have pretty much perfected it, and with a little bit of positive thinking anything can happen  , good luck with it all and let us know how it all goes for you, x .

Hi
I knew when I met my husband that he had only 2% normal sperm. I have no problems at all however it took us about 10 yrs to get around to being able to have the time and be able to afford IVF. I found out I was pregnant on the 24th Oct 2005 after our first cycle of ICSI and Cael was born on the 20/6/06. My positive HCG results were always lower than what the doctor thought they should be and he was strarting to think I may not have been pregnant (this was quite stressful and went on for about 7wks until I changed doctors)! I must admit I never thought it would work first go and my attitude was if it happens it happens if it doesn't we'll just try again.
I had 12 eggs, 9 fertilised, 2 transferred and we still have 7 frozen.
Good Luck!

Thanks for all your replies Ladies!
Keep them coming...!!!
Miracle & CaelsMum - You both mentioned that you had 2 embies transferred in the first cycle. I was wondering where you had your IVF treatment and if this was permitted because of your ages? At IVF Australia in Sydney (Chatswood) they will only transfer one on the first cycle unless you are over the age of 38.
Thanks Helen.

Hi there we had our ds on our first attempt. I often thought when we were trying that it would take three or four goes but we were blessed.
The problem is with me my tubes dont so Ivf was our only option.
It really does happen the first time and i wish you all the luck:hugs:
Baby Dreams - this is my first ivf baby - my problems occured from an illness that attacked my immune system (amongst other things), which brought on the menopause. I went through Flinders - actually I didnt get a choice as I was referred internally but made it easier as they already had my history, so they more or less knew what was going on b4 they even tested me.
Helen I'm 36, I got the impression its not the norm to transf 2 , I think it was partially due to my history. We were advised to get cracking cause time was running out for us..

Hey again, I only had 1 embie transfer, they told me because i am only 27, if i was older than 40 they would put 2 in, my fertility clinic is totally against multiple pregnancy, with multiple pregnancy comes more risk and they always told me that i am their first priority and they didnt want to risk anything.

Helen
I went through Queensland Fertility Group, I was 30 at the time. It was their particular policy to transfer a max of 2 at a time (regardless of age) to increase the chance of pregnancy but if I wanted only 1 transferred that was OK too.

I also went through QFG and had two embryos transferred.
hi
My first initial IVF was cancelled due to being a poor responder though when we went back I got eight eggs collected three of which fertilised. We only had one put back in on day three which was recommended due to our age (29) though it was ultimately our choice and we could have had two. We were lucky to recieve our BFP from this first round.
Our problems are related to poor morphology with DH.
I am currently 33 weeks pregnant and am wishing you similar luck on your journey. We were told to be prepared for 3-4 tries before being successful but it can happen on the first! :)
hi,
I have moderate endo and dh has low morph and mobility, so we have multiple problems...
We were lucky enough to fall pregnant with our first cycle and our one and only good embryo. Unfortunately i had a miscarriage at 10 weeks, but the fact we got pregnant was still a huge step. We've just gone through our second cycle and again only one embie so :fingerscrossed: will let you know how this one goes. Preg test 11/4/07...
Good luck and remember anything is possible!!
Helenmac- I go to IVF Australia Westmead.
They two tell me i can only have one transfered but when i went through this the first time they allowed me to have two under protest but in the end i got my way.
My DH has poor sperm quality and quantity
and as far as i was aware i was ok but found out differently later on.
I started my first ICSI cycle in June 2005
I had 6 eggs retrieved and they all fertilised
i had 1 embryo put back in on day 3
I got a :bfp:
But i miscarried at 6wks.
i used all my Frozen embryo's and if i fell pregnant i was miscarrying.
so after some tests they found i too had a problem but not with getting pregnant staying pregnant my body clots against the placenta and so when we did our next cycle i was on blood thinning meds.
I started my 2nd cycle in March and after a long process and many tears i finally got my way and they transferred two embryo's
With my second cycle i got 9 eggs 7 fertilised and i took them all to Blasto and had 2 put back in and the rest frozen
On Good Friday 2005 i found out i was pregnant with twins.
at 5wks i had 2 sacs but it was to early to see hearts beating and at 7 wks i had one heartbeat but still two sac's and at 8wks i only had one sac and one beating heart.
She is still beating away in her cot sound asleep.
I haven't had any luck with my frozen embryo transfers this time and have to go back for egg retrival when we save the money up.
Goodluck sorry for so much info.
Dr Illingworth from westmead ivf australia told my DH to take multi vits for men and zinc and bio ace which is anti-oxidents these all improve quality and quantity for our last cycle.
he still takes them and we pray that we may be lucky to fall naturally but it hasn't worked so far but great fun trying anyway.

Hi helenmac
We thought all our dreams had come true when were told our first ivf/icsi cycle had been a success. Our world fell apart when I was rushed to hospital bleeding internally with an ectopic pregnancy. We've been tryng to conceive for seven years and had previously had 4 x IUI'S due to endometriosis. We only had five eggs, thus the ICSI. We've since had an failed FET. I've just started Lucrin injections and all going well will e having a fresh ivf cycle in April. I wish someone had explained to me that an ectopic was a possibility. I hope you never have to go through that and wish all the luck in the world. Good luck.and keep your chin up. ;)
