 I'm a temp, and my next 4 week contract (starting next Monday) is in the city, on a large partitioned type floor with about 50 - 100 people. I had handover yesterday & they "suggested" to me that I would be able to express in the disabled toilet!!!!! One of them said to me "it's hardly ever used, so it's pretty clean".
Bl00dy hell. If they can't find somewhere in that whole building for me to sit with a power point for 15 minutes, twice a day, then I'm going to decline the position.
hmmph. not fair.
Thank you for listening to my whinge.....;)

Hardly good enough is it?
I actually expressed in the toilet at the hospital Jesse was in while he was in SCN. I couldn't stand the hustle and bustle and eyes of the 'milking shed', it made me very uncomfortable.

oooh that makes me so mad! Honestly, some days I think society just wants women to give up feeding! Because they certainly don't make it easy!
Big :hugs: and :fingerscrossed: they either find a decent spot for you or you get a better assignment soon.

I KNOW! I'm just hoping that on Monday I can speak to someone with common sense. We'll wait & see!:fingerscrossed:
 the disabled toilet at my work has just finished completion and the first thing I said was "OOOH! CAN I EXPRESS IN THERE!!!" (only used once a day.. so it's clean as)
Surely there's an empty office, a first aide room, a lunch room you can lock? :/

It's a legal requirement that the company has to have a "safe, private and hygenic" room available for you to express breastmilk. If they tell you anything else then they need to go back to HR school or whatever cause it's the law.

I thought that as well - they have to provide somewhere that is NOT a toilet
How would they like to eat their lunch that was prepared in the dunny?! :p
Honestly I am starting to think that most Australian workplaces are stuck in 1880. Get with the program business owners and make your businesses more parent friendly. Businesses that have see a huge return in staff retention and loyalty!!

Yay! The team leader of my division is wonderful & she has pre booked the meeting room for me, twice a day for the next 4 weeks!:smiliedance: :smiliedance:
Wow, I was so relieved & grateful. Thankfully one of them could see that I WOULD NOT express in the toilet! (sorry Seekrit, but I just couldn't...)
There is no lock on the door, and it's a pretty decent size room, so now I just have to hope that someone doesn't accidentally walk in on me!

Just sit with your back to the door so nobody can just walk in on you, and maybe stick a sign on the door- "Privacy Requested"
People will leave you alone I'm sure! Great that they have the space for you now, *phew* Was feeling a bit sick thinking of you pump, pump it jam, in the toilet.....:D

In my experience, bf is not the norm. It's any wonder there's a dire lack of facilities for bf women, ESPECIALLY in the workplace.
Thankfully, women like you are helping to change this.
I envision a totally family-friendly workplace, with inbuilt childcare, bf/expressing breaks, flexible hours, part-time and jobsharing.. wouldn't that be nice?
Maybe one day...
