Hi everyone,

I had a scan this week to check bub's head size etc (am 36 weeks), OB told me is was 8.75cm. I assume this is diameter (??).

He says bub is full term size and ready to go...

My first was 9cms at birth (I think).

Does anyone know is this right? What were yours bub's head sizes at birth?

Does that mean a big bub if I go to 40 weeks?

My babys head size was 35cm...I'm not sure what it is in diameter though.
If the doctor isn't worried I wouldn't be worrying too much!

How can your Ob tell how mature your baby's lungs are from an u/s? Term is 38-42 weeks so you could have another 6 weeks to go yet. It's baby's brains that signal when they're ready to be in the world :) Read the other thread in here currently going about socalled "big babies". You will only grow a baby to the perfect size for you to push out! And it won't be long now :)

Thank you everyone! Very reassuring to hear how everyone else went...

I am booked in for a c-section, so won't be 'pushing' bub out, but just wanted to hear if anyone else measured large for dates and what that ended up meaning.

My first bub was early, and I've already gone into labour once, so I think I've only got days rather than weeks left...

thank you again! :)

**I am booked in for a c-section, so won't be 'pushing' bub out, but just wanted to hear if anyone else measured large for dates and what that ended up meaning.**

i had 4 ultrasounds as my baby measured too large for dates at all times.
When i questioned what is going to happen, as bub WAS big at u/s (as expected) and i thought maybe there were going to induce or c/s, but as it turned out they said "nup, thats fine"
i couldnt understand what all the monitoring was for! as they said a big baby is great. i think they check for amount of fluid/water your bub is in.. other than that i didnt understand what all the fuss was about!
had me a little confused  but anyways i gave birth naturally to a 9lb 8 girl, 35.5 head circ. and everything went perfectly well.

Good luck! :)

Hi all- I'm 35 weeks and my baby is 2.5kg with a 31cm head.
I was 8lbs 10oz at birth......... My brother was 10lbs. We both have big heads too.
They say the baby's physical size at birth follows the mother's.

We had an ultrasound at around 37 weeks and were told DD's head diameter was 10 cm. She was delivered by c/s at 38.5 weeks and measured 37.7cm circumference, (for anyone who cares, circumference = 3.14 x diameter, approximately). But she was breech so her head was pushed up against my ribs and square. If she'd been v/b I think her head would have been squeezed into the more usual cone shape and wound up with a slightly smaller circumference.

A friend who did his residency at RPA told me that asian babies tend to have bigger heads, but are overall smaller than caucasian babies. That means they tend to have heads that are large for their bodies.
