Hi ladies,

I'm thinking of taking the plunge and buying some bulk bamboo and hemp. I know there was a bamboo buy recently, is there anyone still interested in more plus the hemp?

Would be:
Bamboo Fleece - 150cm wide, $10 per 50cm or $20 per metre (plus post)
Hemp Fleece - 150cm wide, $15 per metre (plus post)

Let me know on this thread or by pm. There is not much bulk left so I want to make up my mind pretty soon...

Thanks in advance!

If you go ahead I might be able to pass one person over to you (they want 2m). I'm not sure if I'll have enough for them. Let me know anyway :)

I can help you with working out postage costs and stuff as well if you want :)

Thanks Tea Lady!

Might be a bit close to the recent frenzy though. Maybe I'll have to wait a bit. It's frustrating knowing how much more it is to buy little amounts though! Wish spotlight would hurry up and start stocking this sort of stuff...

I think I might be interested in a couple of meters of bamboo, but I wouldn't mind knowing postage costs to Brisbane first...

can i ask where your getting the material from for $20/metre & $15/metre?

Hi Zada,

I'm not sure yet! Those prices are an average to see if anyone is interested and if I can find a cheaper one it will be a bonus for us all. Snaps Australia does bulk but they only have really big lots left of the bamboo, so they are cheaper but a pretty big outlay. I'm waiting to hear back from some hemp places, hoping to get a price list from hemp wa today in particular. I can't remember the other names, I'll go back and check.

Maybe we can take it in turns outlaying with everyone sharing? Sure beats paying $20 per metre for hemp!

If there is enough interest by the end of the weekend, I might bite the bullet and go with snaps though. It's hefty but would make it $12.50/mtr hemp and $7.25/50cm ($14.50/mtr) bamboo. It's only $2.50 savings, but that adds up when buying bulk! But I'd need a lot of people to share to do that...

So if you're interested, get replying and pming - i've got to assure my dh that other people are sharing before he'll let me buy!

Cheers,
Karen xxx

Yeah, buying from snaps would be my ideal, it would be cheaper and then I can get a snap machine too!

:fingerscrossed: I get enough people. Will keep you updated how I go with the other places too!

Just got refered here by a friend. I am very interested in buying some hemp and bamboo. Once you find out definate prices I will let you know exactly how much I want of each. But at the moment I am thinking at least 3m of each. or maybe just 5m of Bamboo. But once you find out prices I will let you know exactly how much I am interested in. So excited. Have been looking for some the last few days and I cant afford to buy a roll and dont want precut squares.

OK ladies. I've checked out lots of wholesale places and overseas options and snaps is still the best price.

But, being new to this, I've only just found out that the coop buyer (ie me!) very often loses out on fabric because of short deliveries, faults and giving extra to others to make up for the faults. Plus I've got to allow some time for the cutting and posting.

So... I want to be completely transparent in this. You guys all know how much the cost is, I need to figure out a fair price per metre/half metre, so I don't end up short changed, especially because the outlay is very large (for me anyway!).

It would be great if you could all let me know what you think is fair. Ideally i'd like this to be regular with others taking turns being the coop type person, so if we can agree on a price, it can just be a matter of someone putting their hand up to do the same thing once a month or two?

Let me know. If we can all agree on a price and start putting dibs on quantities, I can order next week...!

Hi Nix,

Thanks for being transparent  . I looked at the snaps website and they say that they include up to a meter extra fabric to cover faults. Also you would get free postage. That said, you are defintely the person going out and spending the bulk and also the one left with the job of cutting and posting.

Would it sound fair to round up to the dollar (for the bamboo, I haven't looked at hemp) so make it $15 per meter?

At that price I'd put my hand up for 2m of bamboo.

:)

I looked at the snaps website and they say that they include up to a meter extra fabric to cover faults.

That's what I thought too, but apparantly they've worded it 'may include up to ...'. One person got 40cm less than ordered! I'm hoping that's just a rare thing. I think I'll email them. I'm happy as long as they can guarantee it won't be short and I get one of those rolls that makes up for faults (not asking for much!). Surely they'd want to look after us if this will be regular?

Meg from the Bamboo store is definitely going to be getting in fleece and velour, but not for another 3 months.

What about everyone else? Still in? Your thoughts on cost?

Rounding up to $15/M for bamboo sounds good - at that price I'd take 2M. Although it still doesn't work out to cover the co-op organiser against faults etc - so maybe even $16/m? I still think that's a pretty fair price (let's face it even $10/ half a meter isn't bad!)

Wish it was bamboo velour and/ or bamboo terry though! sniffing around for some at the moment...

Yep im still interested. I think $16 is fair. I would be willinging to pay it.

Hi Ladies,

OK, I've decided to do it! I still need more people for the bamboo though as they only have really big rolls left. Will try on the nappy sewing forum to see if I can find some more takers.

Although I think it's more than fair for other coop people in the future to charge anywhere from $15 to $20/ metre for the bamboo, I've decided to go the lower end, as I need more people and I've emailled snaps and they've been very helpful.

SO... I'm going to start a new thread with just the prices to see if we can get any new people on bubhub. If you know anyone else in your travels, pass em on! I'll pm you all the new link in case you're not on atm.
