I am heading off to Melb for the w/end, and am debating whether to just put Phoebe in disposables while we are there.

We are flying over, so I cant pack a bucket, but was wondering if I can dry pail in a plastic bag, or will this make the nappies go mouldy? I would wash them daily, so they'd be in for max 24hrs.

We are staying at my MIL's and I'd really like to shove it up her that I use cloth :devil6: , as she nagged and nagged me about using disposables and bottle feeding my other two.! I plan on spending any time I have not washing nappies, having my boobs out feeding bubs :D

Wrong motive I know, but you dont know my MIL :p

Sorry...drifted off topic..... :ecomcity:

haha sounds like my DFs Mum
we don't get along

anyways back to the topic :)

i don't think it would matter if they were in there for a max 24hrs
i would leave them any longer than than as they will probably sweat in the bag if its hot.

maybe when you wash them do a rinse cycle first before you wash them :)

Hemp goes mouldy in a nappy bucket after about 4 days - I learnt the hard way :o :barf: . If its only 24 hours, you should be fine :)

After making the extra space for my MCN, and doing washing on my holiday, she'd better make a comment!!

I bet it will be something like 'disposables would be easier, dont you think?'.

*sigh* you cant win. :D

or something along the lines of "you know if you brought disposibles when you got here you would have had more room in your suitcase"

Sounds about right
It has been my mum who has gone on and on about me bottlefeeding my bubs and not using cloth for long enough with DS and now she tells me that I spend too much money on mcn's (even tho I only really have enough for a few nights and for going out, I just use flats at home):banghead:

Rather than using a plastic bag while you are away you could try to find a colapsable bucket, I can't remember where I saw them, maybe a camping store...or even just go buy a cheap bucket, without a lid, when you get to where you are going and cover it with a plastic bag to keep any smells in, I have done that before without a problem when the lid on my nappy bucket split.

Over Xmas, when we flew back to SA for holidays, all I used was a garbage bag. I washed every 2 days or so and the nappies were fine. When you put the nappies in just twist the top of the bag to keep all the smell in and you wouldn't even know they're in there. I did this for about 4 weeks.

We use a large wet bag for daycare and those nappy sacks for poo nappies - until I get a chance to flush them out and this has worked fine - I even went away for work and after 3 days all was fine - albeit the smelly pooy ones! I also use the dishwasher fresheners in my buckets and wet bags which helps.

I'm going away for the weekend too.I know you said a max of 24 hrs but does anyone think it would be too much if it was 48hrs? I'm leaving Friday afternoon and should be able to wash them by late Sunday arve.

I was hoping to just put them in a garbage bag, do you think that'd be ok?

It probably depends on your individual baby, their wee, how hot it will be etc. Twice we've gone down South for 3-4 days - in midsummer - and kept all the night nappies (no poo) in large PUL wetbags the whole time with our other laundry, washing as soon as we got home. No problems.

Mmmmm 48hrs probably would be ok but i wouldnt push it any further due to the dampness. If they stay too damp in a sweaty bag they are more likely to go mouldy even PUL can grow mould tis gross !

It'll only be the one nappy for the full 48hrs I think.I may even be able to rinse it out and dry it somewhere.

My parents are hippies so no washing machine:laughing: I may even take some washing powder and just hand wash if I can.

Thanks for the tip Allyoo, I really wouldn't like to open a bag full of mouldy mcn :barf:

we used wetbags when we went to Sydney for the weekend last year, and had no problems, some nappies were in there for almost 48hrs.

and re MIL's - I have 3 boys, so chances are I'm going to be the MIL 3 times over!!! Not all MIL's have to be bad, surely
