Hi Moni,

Would love to hear from u with any advice, tips and hints for twins. This is my 1st pregnancy & am 29wks with twins (boy & girl) and NEED to hear from other mums of twins.

Really starting to get uncomfortable now (feel like a big whale!) and uncertain on how is it actually going to work when we get home from the hospital?!

Hope to hear from u.

Hi,

I am a first time mum expecting twins in September. Would love to chat to others, especially around what baby furniture you found useful, any good books/resources and ideas.

Has anyone had success with a particular double pram/stroller?

Thanks
Louise

Hi

I am a mother of 3 aged 3, 2 and 1 and I am currently 4 months pregnant with twins!!! I know - bit of a shock but I am now very happy and excited about it all. My first reaction at my ultrasound with my husband was bursting in to tears - couldnt believe what I was hearing letalone seeing.

We always wanted 4 close together but I guess we were blessed with having 2 more. 5 kids under 5 will be interesting but in a lot of ways, rewarding.

I am finding it very difficult to find other mums that have twins or are expecting twins until I saw your thread. Is there any sort of advice or anything that you can give?

Not sure whether you might know about the chorionosity of twin pregnancy but I only have one chorion (the outer membrane) and two amnions (inner membranes) which suggests that they are identical twins, not fraternal. They are also only sharing one placenta.

Are your twins identical and did they share only one placenta? The only concern I have been told with sharing a placenta is that you can have twin to twin transfusion where one baby gets more nutrients then the other. I am going through the foetal medicine unit here in Canberra where they are meant to be excellent with dealing with high risk pregnancies etc:

Did you go full term or early with your twins and did you deliver naturally?

Sorry about all of the questions - have so much to ask and so much to find out!!!

Thanks - hope to talk soon.

Ta,

Jayne

Hi Louise,

I am also expecting twins in September and have been searching and searching for other mums to be who are having twins. Do you know whether you are having identical or fraternal yet?

I have been told that I am expecting identical due to the twins sharing the one placenta and the one outer membrane. I am so scared of something going wrong - i do myself more harm then good searching the internet for answers!.

How is your pregnancy going??? Do you know what you are having?

CONGRATULATIONS anyway!

Hi there all,

I am a mum to 3.5 month old twin girls. They are definately alot of work but it's definately all worth it! :smiliedance:

As far as pieces of equipment that we couldn't live with / without.. definately on the top of the "couldn't live without" list would be their Rockers (a godsend!!) followed closely by a really good twin pram (ie. a pram that you can actually get out of the car, open up and then pack away by yourself - ours is 9kgs and is fantastic!) . Something that we got that surprisingly we haven't used very much would be the BabyBjorn carriers.. I was so sure we would be using them all over the place but I think we've used them twice...:(

I would love to hear about other mum's experiences and to find out what your survival tips are :)

Hi- I'm a twin Mummy to Cameron and Elissa- they are 19 months old- lots of fun, lots of cuddles, lots of everything!

As for the things I couldn't live without- their rockers when they were little. My childcare double pram (twin shopper) it's not the smallest one you can get but it's on the small side- and I found dealing with Childcare to be great! They replaced all the fabric on my pram because it faded!!

Um, what else- my breast pump- my best friend- couldn't have bf without it.
my feeding pillow- my other best friend! I think the brand is "my feeding mate" I can dig out the details if anyone wants them- you can use it for breastfeeding and bottlefeeding.

If I had twins again I would have purchased a sling or two- I bought one when they were 11 months and found it very helpful.

I had them in a portacot with the newborn insert in our room for the first 3 months- and then moved them into their room in one cot for about another month. Then I put them into 2 cots.

oh- my rocking chair!!! Oh my goodness- I use it everyday still- I have a little boy who needs a bit of help getting to sleep. If I had my time again I would have bought one of those big comfy ones. Mine is just a cheap junky one from Big W- but it does the job!

You really need lots of help, especially at the beginning. If you are wanting to breastfeed make sure you read up and find someone who is committed to helping you- like a lactation consultant (if you have the $$$) or get in contact with the Australian Breastfeeding Association , or a friend that has breastfed and is confident. I would love to help any Brisbane mothers with their breastfeeding- to me it has been the best thing- I had an emergency c-section- had lots of trouble feeding and bonding and everything- thankfully I had my Mum (a midwife) who helped me with it all.

Best books:- Twins- (that's helpful) it is written by two Australian mothers of twins- shares their experiences.

Breastfeeding:- Dr Sears book on Breastfeeding

As for pregnancy and birth- REST REST REST.

Try to be relaxed about the birth- and if you are wanting a natural birth- go for it- but I was so thankful that I had discussed with my mother and husband what I wanted if I had to have a ceaser- I really didn't want a ceaser and thought that thinking about it was the wrong thing- but in the end I'm so pleased that I had prepared as it gave me a sense of control because I had made previous decisions.

Sorry for my rambling- hope it is helpful to someone.

Hi everyone,

I am expecting twins end of Oct.. Im only 13 weeks so still have a long way to go. Very anxious about this as they are monochorionic and searching on the internet all you ever find is the bad stuff. Would love to hear anyones identical twin stories.
Jayneo - I am also in ACT and have an appt. at the fetal med. clinic next week. Are you going to see them for the entire pg? It is hard to get any information out of the receptionist as to wether this is possible. When did you have you first appt?

Take care all you mums and mums to be.

Hi all,
I have 1 year old fraternal twin boys and am 6 weeks pregnant again. We will find out next week how many we are having but I have this strange feeling that it is going to be 2 again!

I read every book I could get my hands on when I was pregnant because I thought that that would help me to prepare for what lay ahead. I didn't know anyone who had twins and none of my friends had any children at all! I was hopelessly under-prepared! I had no idea about raising a baby, let alone 2! But we struggled through and have 2 very happy and healthy little joys.

My Mum bought me two rockers when I was pregnant and for some strange reason, I didn't even think to use them until the boys were about 6 months old. I have no idea how I managed without them and thoroughly recommend getting them.

Next time, I wouldn't bother with a change table. I found that having to do everything twice, it was much easier to do it on the floor.

My other suggestion would be to get a slow cooker/ crock pot. It is so much better to have a healthy hot meal at the end of an exhausting day than to have to eat takeaway or a vegemite sandwich. I just chucked everything in (even frozen meat that I couldn't identify) and turned it on.

All the best

Karen

HI all,

COngratulations to all fo you who are pregnant.

I have twins Felisity and Connor who are 7 weeks old (yes i amstill up at this ridiculous time but its all worth it) and 16 mnth old Ella.

I am still in the early stages but he ebst advice i cna give you is if oyu are going ot go out, put a blanket over the pram or walk with your head down and learn to ignore everyone. The first time i toojk the twins out it took me 4 hour to do hour and a haldf worth of shopping with everyone stopping me commenting on the twins.

I had them by emergnecy c section at 33 weeks, they spent 2 weeks in special care andcame home on different days.

I am here if anyone would like tochat my email is mum_of_ella@hotmail.com

Oh yeah, I remember my first shopping trip with twins, and oh, some of the silly questions! I mean they were both like 6 weeks old, and I get asked are they twins.

The amount of people who stopped me to have a look and the comments, oh double trouble, really starts to wear thin after the 100the person said it, come on, please think of something more original

Why is it that people get so shocked and say, oh poor you, lucky its not me

Hi everyone.
Nice to see this thread.
I have 1 year old twins who have just started walking. Hooray!! For all you mums with younger twins, I feel like my life just got a little easier. Everyone kept saying 'wait til they start walking, it will be so much harder'. But I've found the opposite. They seem to be a little more independant.
I agree, the rockers ROCKED. couldnt have lived without them. I also didnt use my baby bjorns. Yes, shopping is a nightmare. The first question is "are they twins" then "is it a boy and girl"yes then "are they identical".
Twins+another, good luck. I think I'd love twins again.
Double the work but double the rewards. I think we are all really lucky.

I think like that too- that I wish my kids could just stay where they are- well, I don't want them to stay at the age they are now- 21 months- they are gorgeous but in some ways, hard work. I think because they are not quite able to communicate as much as they would like, they get frustrated. I'm sure we'll make it through the terrible two's though...

Trust me - bubs around the 1yr mark are easy to be around. I have four other daughters - all school age. When having to listen to them each morning before school - I'm quite happy for them to walk out the door at 8:45am. My stress levels drop quite suddenly when they leave. Trust me - its a great age when they can't communicate!:)

I have to take mine to school, but the stress levels LOL yep drop from 100 to 1 in as soon as I am back in the car. But they also go up from 1 to 100 the second they are back in the car, ARGH! the yelling in the car on the way home :o

very physical, they all have to get the last hit/kick in. but now DD is starting to copy them. Such a little lady, she pulls down her pants and shows her bum to them like they do.
