Can anyone give me a magic cure for miganes? I've been getting them a fair bit lately & have been told I can take nothing stronger than Panadeine for it due to bf. I used to take Aspro Clear or Nurofen with great success but cant because of bf.

Oh the joys of having a migrane & a very chatty 7month old :p Dont suppose being online is helping though either :o

Oh no!

Yes because you are bf there isn't much you can take.

What about lavender smells? That's meant to help.

Drink some herbal tea like camomile.

I get them as well, though being asthmatic, I'm actually alergic to asprin. So the best I can take is Feorenal (though probably not when your B/F), I've actually been taking the panadol Rapid or (amcal brand) panadine for strong pain relief and they aren't too bad.
I've found I can't use those migra sticks because both peppermint and lavander can set me off, I also can't have herbal teas they set me off aswell.

I had a beauty migraine on Tuesday and found a wheatbag helped alot....I ususally take 3 aspro's and go to bed, but with a bubba can't do that anymore...Have you seen a dr to ask what you can take?

At the first sign of a migraine turn out the lights in the room, put a cold pack on the worst spot and try to sleep if you can.

Some foods are known to trigger migraines, such as chocolate, msg, strong (aged) cheese. If you do a google search you should find a much longer list of suspects. If you watch your diet you may notice some relationships between your migraines and what you've eaten.

Sometimes I find if I haven't had a coffee in the morning I'll get a withdrawal headache in the afternoon (yes, I'm an addict) and so a coffee will help get rid of the headache, but I'm not sure this would apply for migraines.

Going on Martha's food triggers, one of mine is citrus, and kabana, any kind of spicey meat really...

Thanks for that. The Drs said nothing other than Panadeine which does nothing. Being a SAHM its impossible to go to a quiet dark room :p I suffered till MJ looked tired then we went and had a sleep together :D Feeling a little better now, but still dizzy & the remains are still lurking.

I'll try the heatpack next time, thanks MarthaM. As for the oils, the strong smells would only make it worse but thanks for the advice all the same. Luckily DH is home now so he can play with MJ for a while, then i'll feed her, then he can give her dinner & bath - wishfull thinking

I feel for you as I suffer them regularly both before, during and after pregnancy! Have since I was very young but nothing can be done! I found I couldn't take anything that helped while b/f or pregnant and just had to ride them out! Now I have finished b/f I can take my usual "Aspalgin'...it's the only thing that has worked for me so far!!

Caffeine, citrus & Choclate are said to trigger them...but they don't with me...I just get them for no reason known!

If you can maybe try a warm bath or shower? Try not do too much as I find that usually aggrevates it...but I know that's hard with kids!!

Hope you feel better soon!

. I have just returned home from the chiropractor and the pain behind my right eye is gone and this time I also had an ear ache and that's gone.
Most of my head aches or the odd migraines are from my neck and back.

A friend gets them from a hormone imbalance, she has been able to keep them under some control seeing a naturopath. Never worked for me. I suppose everyone needs to find where there’s are coming from. Hope you find he cause of your’s.

Busymumof3 yes Iam lucky the only thing worse than a migraine is not being able to get rid of it. I know once I go and have my neck adjusted the pain is gone.

I find that those "migrane stick" from the chemist works great. It has esential oils like lavender in it and you just rub it on your temples and neck.

I'll second the use of the Migrastick from the chemist. Lavender and peppermint oils, and it does help.

The other thing which REALLY helps mine is to get a good remedial massage of my head, neck and shoulders.

I've also had much less trouble with migraines since starting regular chiropractic treatment.

I tried those sticks and they worked sometimes (must depend on why I have a head ache

I think you cant use them while your pregnant, I think it's on the box. I remember getting them while PG and couldn't use them I thought it was strange as there herbal

Just because something is herbal doesn't mean it doesn't have pharmacological properties - otherwise how would they work as a remedy?

Peppermint in more than a very small dose during pregnancy is specifically warned against in all the herbal books I own.

The idea of a small dose seems to be no more than 1-2 cups of weak herbal tea, and no use of peppermint essential oil at all during pregnancy.

Very interesting I don’t know a thing about herbs or natural healing. I should look for a good book.

Feeling a bit better this morning then the stress started (typical). Not impressed with KMart at the moment - they lost MJs christmas layby

Depending on the sort of migrane it is, sometimes chocolate will ease it - strange but true

Hello
I suffer horribly from migraines as well, and my doctor recommended that i stop breastfeeding because it takes away all you oestrogen, which in turn caues the migraine.

I wasnt happy with this and decided to just deal with the migraines. I take two panadol, a dark room and wet washer, although i do understand how hard this can be. If DH isnt home then it cant happen, but im more prone to them at night anyway.

Sorry im not more help.

god - i know what you mean jakes mum. I had the worst one i've ever had the other night. I was vomiting and screaming. Luckily 4 year old was with nanna and DP could take the day off to look after bubs. I have no cure for them either - none of the conventional drugs work. I wish I could help

RB a naturopath would be a great place for you to start. And I second the chiropractor or osteopath too. I never see doctors for anything as I prefer a holistic, gentle approach not just having the symptoms masked. And you're not even getting that! You might need a dietary overhaul and some supplements. Sending healty vibes your way ~*~*~*~*~*~

I'm going to go see a naturopath in the new year. Think its the only way to go. Safer while bf & would more than likely help heaps with both the migranes & depression :)

Yes yes yes :) Flower essences like Waratah (THE essence for depression) and herbs like St Johns Wort can make a HUGE difference to your life. I can vouch for it ;)

I get migraines severely and always have but have identified most of the triggers so can control them much better these days.

My worst ones - cluster migraines - which go for up to 4 days with varying degrees of severity. I used to get physio, use oils, ice packs on my head and neck and all sorts of things. But the main trigger is as Jakesmum indicated, a decrease in the level of oestrogen (sp?) in your system. When you are on the pill and hit the red tablets, your oestrogen levels dip and take a few days to readjust. A Dr recommended patches to me - you put one on the night before AF and change it to another after 2 days - bingo - no more major hormonal headaches ! It also subsided whilst I was pregnant and B/F - in fact these only came 2 months ago - bubs is now 18 months old.

RB, Freaky - sometimes chocolate will ease mine as well .....

Hi RB,

I too suffer from migraines and being pregnant I cant take a lot of things but I can take Mersyndol ... it is safe whilst pregnant and it has a muscle relaxant in it which is good .... mersyndol is also good during pregnancy if you get a lot of muscular pain...

The only down side is you get very sleepy from it ... but hey sometimes it's not a down side if you are having trouble sleeping during pregnancy from pain and from just being too big....

Hope you feel better

I also suffer from very sever migrains, i cant see and my right arm and left leg go numb and if it gets really bad my tounge goes numb and i trough up:eek: I have had all the tests and they cant figure it out, no drugs help:( So the only thing i can do is go to sleep in a dark cool room, which is impossible with a 5 month old!!

I seem to get them when i get fatigued(SP?)so lack of sleep and stress dont help! ' touch wood' i have only had two while i was pg and 1 since bubs was born!

Sorry i cant give you any 'good' advice:confused:

Chocolate and coke do seem to help sometimes:rolleyes:
