DS is at that age where he pulls himself up onto everything! Along with that comes plenty of tumbles and hitting his head on our horrible tiled slab floor :crying:

He has done this a few times now, sometimes he pulls himself up and falls faster than I can race over to him. There are plenty of tears and screaming when he hits his head, but he recovers in a few minutes with the help of oob.

How bad is this for him? Every time he falls I cry when I think of his poor little brain and all the brain cells that must have died...lol:o

He hits his head quite hard, can he damage himself??

He has just dont this half an hour ago. Does anyone have any advice, my poor little boy. Do you think he would have a headache now?

Ahhhh, i see he is the same age as my dd. What fun u must be having. Dd falls over a couple of times a day. This morning pulled another chair on top of her head. She had a nice big black eye a couple of weeks ago.

I think pretty much they will be okay. And they'll learn.

Thanks kiah. Its just comforting to know that babies hit their heads and they will be ok.

I was thinking of getting him one of those baby crash helmets...LOL...is that overkill....me think so

Elly-welly :) Curtis had 2 blood noses and a split lip within the first 2 weeks of starting to cruise. It happens. Even when you're right there with him, it happens. :hugs: It's horrible, but it happens.

Can you put a rug or even a thick blanket down on the tiled floor? Carpet is still not fun to fall on, but better than tiles (I know your pain, our old house was all slate tiles). Do you have nice lawn? Get him outside into nature and let him fall down there instead of inside.

And you know what, I personally don't think those helmet things are over-kill - it may or may not protect his head, but it will definitely make you feel a bit better about him falling over :) And think of how cute the photo's will be

Thanks Kerrin :hugs:

I just feel so bad!!

We need to get a rug definately, we dont have any in the house. We normally run around after him with a little yoga mat, but its hard to keep up with him sometimes.

Im looking forward to the dry season when we CAN get outside, at the moment its not really safe for him to play outside cause of this funny virus that lives in the wet soil  ...I cant remember its name, but a few people die each wet season from it.

Kiah & Sw33tn3ss, DS is obsessed with the video player too, and also pulling ALL the books from the book shelf and opening and closing drawers which mostly ends in his jamming his fingers and crying...

They are soooo cute but!!

I saw those crash helmets in a mag once, I might look for one on the net now...hehe.

I constantly worry about DS and his head thumps. He always seems to be falling over or crawling under low tables/chairs and then trying to sit up straight  .

I guess it's their way of learning and discovering. They're pretty tough little things. I'm with you on the outside issue - it's just been too hot, but I would much prefer my DS out on the soft grass.

We had the same trouble, and rubber-ised our family room with those alphabet foam tiles from the reject shop. Works a treat! He falls and it doesn't upset him in the slightest.

Then, after all of that (it took a LONG time to tile the whole room lol) we were at a friend's house and she had a rolled up teatowel tied around bub's head (like a tennis sweatband) and it achieved the same result! Doh!

Does he know how to fall onto his bum? I'm fortunate in taht Cobey knew how to do that without any "teaching" the first time he stood up, he slid back down to his bum without consequence... and then started doing this thing where he'd go down one-handed and touch the ground with his hand first, the rock back onto his butt, so cute.
Anyway, I don't know if there's a way to teach them how to go onto their bottoms but it's worth a shot?

Cobey has many falls, and we have hardwood floors so in the main lounge area (toy zone/cruise zone) there's a thick rug. He still crashes sometimes but tends to be okay for those falls.

I took him to work a few weeks back and he fell over on the lino... "oooh that must hurt" cried a co-worker.. "No.. lino's soft compared to the hardwood floors of home." :p

My nephew climbed onto the bench and took a flying leap off it, landing on his head. mmm ... he got concussion and bruises from that one. My poor SIL just couldn't keep up with him at that age - he would be climbing or falling 2 seconds after you last looked at him. BUT, he grew out of it and he's fine. He's had a few headaches along the way and a few little bruises, but he's now a happy, healthy 2 1/2 year old ... ok, so he still runs around A LOT, but he doesn't hurt himself so much now.

I love bubhub. I was going to ask this exact question today due to events last night.

Last night bubby did a backward face-plant (if that makes sense) from a standing position. Then during the night I was busting for the loo so I hopped out of bed and raced for a pee and as I was juuuuuust about back in the room I heard the unmistakeable thud of a small person hitting the deck head first. So that was two relatively hard thumps in a matter of hours. That sound haunts me.

I am assuming that our dear friend mother nature has made SOME allowances for this in her infant skull design, but I don’t know for a fact and I am worried about what is happening to his brain.
