hi all
tatum is 9mths and the only way to get her to sleep during the day and night is by wrapping her tightly with a muslin wrap. She is such a wriggler!
if she falls to sleep during the day from exhaustion without a wrap she will wake herself within 20-30mins. if she is wrapped she will sleep anywhere from 1hr -2.5hrs!!!!
during the night while wrapped she will wriggle her way up to the top of the cot and end up up against the bars of the cot, usually on her tummy, or lying horizontal or with her head facing the bottom of the cot. she usually will wake up if she has squashed herself up against the cot bars, i just reposition her and she goes back to sleep.
she wakes me at least once due to unwrapping herself and not being able to put herself back to sleep. she keeps crying (not hysterically) then nods off to sleep then starts crying. she is usually sitting up when i get into her room. as soon as i wrap her she goes back to sleep.
it has only been recent that i stopped rocking her to sleep in my arms. now i put her in the cot and stroke her head to relax her and then walk away. this usually works without having to go back in to settle her again.
there is no way that i can put her in the cot without wrapping her (at the moment) she wont stay still. i have also tried rocking her in my arms without a wrap and she wriggles too much (unless she is totally exhausted)
I know i have to stop wrapping her, just dont know the best technique. Any suggestions

i read further down in the forum that a lady started to leave limbs out one by one when wrapping.
i just left one arm out when wrapping for her afternoon siesta and for the first 15min she moved, rolled and wriggled around and started crying. when i checked on her she had lost her dummy, so i laid her down again and instantly started rolling around.
i didnt even bother tucking the sheet in, i just walked out of the room. within minutes she fell asleep!!!!!! :D
hopefully it will be that easy when it comes to her big sleep tonight

Don't stress too much about your daughter being wrapped at 9mnths. My DS was wrapped untill he grew out of it when he was ready. and that was only couple of months ago at 11 and 1/2 mnths. I found that no matter how much i tried he just wouldnt sleep until he was wrapped.

My daughter was also 11 months when she stopped being wrapped. It used to worry me aswell and i tried and tried to wean her off it with no success. Suddenly at 11 months she just decided she didn't need it anymore and slept unwrapped. It all happened in her own time so i wouldn't worry too much.

Ds2 is turning 6 mths next weeks and in the last week he has been unwrapped. We started by wrapping his trunk and leaving his legs out. He too rolls over and jams himself up against the side of the cot but I notice he is relaxed whenhe has no wind and has been fed and is full. When he is uncomfy he will not sleep, he relies on a dummy too but puts it in himslef if he is not distressed. Ds1 was wrapped until 9mths he was so strong and we leet him grow out of being wrapped then there was less fighting. All baby's are different though.

I was in the same boat with my DD, she was wrapped until she was about 10months when I felt that it was getting too hot for her to be wrapped.

We went cold turkey and used a small amount of controlled crying, although we found that we didn't need to. The first night she cried for maybe 10minutes, the next night she went straight to sleep.

But as someone else said, all kids are different. My DS has been sleeping unwrapped for 3weeks and he is 3months old. Each to their own.
