Okay, here's the situation. The kids school is 13km away.....one way, and school finishes at 3pm.
Brooke has netball training on Monday from 3:15 to 4:15, in the school grounds.
Jacob has soccer training on Thursdays from 4-5pm, at the sports ground next to the school.
I am due to give birth in 9 days, but aside from that, I am unsure what to do about the travelling thing.
Do I go in today, pick Jacob up, come home, then go in at 4pm to get Brooke??
Do I go in, wait around for an hour and then bring them both home??
On Thursday, do I go in, come home with Brooke, then go back to drop him off, come home and then go back to pick him up??
Aside from all of the travelling, it will be very hard to do with a 2yr old and a newborn........not to mention in winter when it's only 2-3 degrees.
There are a couple of other kids who live here and travel back and forth each day, should I ask them if they could pick up the child who doesn't have training and bring them home for me.......and arrange for Jacob to go to a friends house on Thursday for the 1hr between when school finishes and training starts?
I don't know any other parents that well and I will feel uncomfortable asking, but I can't see any other option right now.
So what would you do?
wow that is a pain, how long does it take you to drive the 13 kms?

To me this sounded like the best answer and I'm sure you've helped others out at times, that's what us parents do, so I would ask away as long as you are comfortable with these people.
If the weathers nice take a picnic and blanket and let the kids run around and play whilst you relax and wait for children to finsh activities.
My opinion is based on the fact that I don't like driving and take any opportunity to be out in the fresh air rather then home doing housework

This is a tricky one. It makes it so much harder when you have other kids to run around after.
On Mondays I would probably go in and pick up Jacob and come home and then go back in and get Brooke. I know its 2 trips but like you said with a baby and a 2yr old in the winter I think it would be too cold.
On Thursdays I would go in and pick up Brooke and arrange for Jacob to go to a friends before his training and then just pick him up afterwards.

It takes me about 7mins to do the trip, but I already spend $40 a week on petrol doing the school run, so I could potentially add another $15 a week to that if I do a few extra trips each week.
I might speak to one lady I know and see if her DH can do it (she works, he's a SAHD) for me. I'll just have to arrange something for Jacob on Thursdays and get the teachers to give them reminders.

Have you checked out school buses?

We don't have school buses out here. :(
I've decided to ask a couple of people if they can help out, especially on cold days after the baby is born.
I was going to suggest car pooling. Could you share the drop offs and pick ups with other parents?:)

Going to try and arrange it. There are only 2 other families who live here that have kids at the school, so hopefully one of them can do it for me if needed.

I'm sure they'll be more than happy to help considering you'll have a newborn! It can't hurt to ask.
Could you arrange with another parent to maybe one time you do the drop off and they do the pick up and then vice versa? You'd be helping each other out then?
I have one at school and three at home including a newborn so i know what you mean. Sometimes it feels like it would be easier to just stay home and not leave the house:o. Unfortunatley thats impossible hey.

I'd love to do that, but I don't have room in my car.
Bugger!! Hmm i dont know then- sorry. Could your il's or parents help out? Do you know any teens that you would feel comfortable leaving your younger ones with for the time you need to be out? A neighbour or someone? You could come to a payment arrangement, that way the little ones wont need to be out in the cold, the older ones get some "grown up time" and while the kids are doing their activities, you get to sit down and relax for an hour?
:hugs:
