Nearly three weeks after popping out Toadlet I have AF!!
Just wondering how long after giving birth you can use tampons?
Getting VERY frustrated with having to wear sanitary pads and sensible knickers!

I think you are safe to use them as long as your sure it's AF and not post birth bleeding (did you finish that long ago?, as it CAN lighten up or go away then come back after a few days i think?).
The only reason they say not to use them for the post birth bleeding is because of the infection risk, so for AF you should be right.
Maybe just give your clinic sister a ring and check to be safe.

I think you're allowed to use them for periods, but not for lochia (the "up to six weeks" flow after having your baby) due to infection risks.
You only had your bub a short time ago, so I'd think it's not safe just yet...

for me, i am extremely afraid of TSS. I would wait until your second period to use the white mice again. Just on err of caution but tahts me.
BTW, love the name for tampons

I would wait until after 6 weeks, so leave it until your next period. After 3 weeks it's most likely lochia bleeding returning which can happen. Otherwise, you would have ovulated 1 week after the birth which is unlikely. Better use pads this time to be on the safe side.

To be honest I used tampons two weeks after I gave birth as I was sick of using pads (uncomfortable horrible things they are!) and never had any issues.
But just did a search on the net and quite a few answers came back all saying the same thing which:
Q - After giving birth, when is it okay to start using tampons again?
A - There is a theoretical increased risk of infection being introduced by using tampons in the weeks after childbirth. By six weeks the uterus has usually returned to its pre-pregnancy size and the cervix has fully closed. This also allows enough time for healing of any vaginal tears or abrasions. Keeping this in mind, general advice would be to wait for at least six weeks before safely starting to use tampons again.
Question: I just had a baby. When can I start using tampons again?
Answer: Not for at least six weeks after giving birth. Even if you've never used sanitary pads in your life, you'll get very familiar with them in the first few weeks after childbirth as your body expels the lochia — a discharge of blood, mucus, and tissue — from your uterus.
As long as the flow of lochia continues, you have an open internal wound at the site where the placenta was attached to the uterine wall. And like any wound, this one is vulnerable to infection. It's important to avoid tampons until you've completely healed inside because they could introduce bacteria. After your six-week appointment with your health provider, assuming the lochia has stopped and your provider approves, you can use tampons for your next normal menstrual period. Of course, if you're
So I guess unless you know its definatley your AF then you will still have to use the surfboards for a bit longer!
I'm not too sure- i thought it was 6 weeks BUT i just wanted to say How ripped off are you feeling right now! Gee, didnt get much of a break did you. :hugs:
