I just got AF back after nearly a year and have started charting. I have looked at the FAQ's about ovulation but still confused, do I need to take temps to know when O happens? Kinda hard with a nearly 1 year old l
If I chart for a few cycles will O just show up?

Hi there,
No, charting alone wont make ovulation happen. Its merely an indication of whether you are ovulating at all and if so, when its happening. Your temps usually cannot predict ovulation, unless you have been charting for several cycles and see a similar pattern happening beforehand. It will be good for you to do tho to see if you are in fact o'ing. Im assuming you just had your first ppaf? It may take a few cycles (perhaps anovulatory) to get back into a pattern. And you can definitely do it with a 1-yr-old! Ive been doing it since Carter was 9 months old. Do you have to get up at night? If so, you need to find a time that you can temp after a 3-hour block of sleep and one thats most likely to be consistent, despite your dd's waking habits. Lukily, we got Carter sleeping thru the night on his own quite a while ago, so this wasnt a big issue for us, but there are def the nights when he keeps me up and I never get that 3 hour block. You do the best you can and in most cases, you will still see the ovulation pattern.
Hope this helps some?? It can be very confusing at the beginning, but it does get easier the more you do it! Let me know if you have any more questions!
