My hubby and I may be moving to WA Rockingham more specifically... I was just wondering where are good places to live. At the moment I live in a place (NSW SYDNEY) that is very alternative, with lots of places with Yoga, gyms, cafe and concerts. If we do more we'll have a newborn baby as well.

Anyones thoughts would be nice.

Hey Hun - check out www.realestate.com (http://www.realestate.com) would be the best way to look at availability and prices. You can also get an overview of statistics for the suberb from it.

It is a nice area though! Good luck with your househunting!

I think Safety Bay is great! (lived there almost 3 years) and have lived in other suburbs around rockingham to over the last 12ish years.

Renting or buying?

not too many concerts around here though, but perth isnt a too long a drive (30-40 mins) the trainline to the city should be here by the end of the year (I think, its been a long time coming)

There is a cafe strip along the foreshore, but having never really been to them I cant comment on what they are like.

If you are into nightlife... hrm.... rockinghams not really the place, but its close to other places.

Having said that, I do love it here.

If you are used to shopping, again, you'll probably want to go closer to the city for that.

Renting... Navy looks after all of that though we just need to know where to look first. Not really into concerts or a night life. But like restaurants, although that may change when the baby comes!!! Ahhh

I really want to live in a place where I can relax and walk with the baby, stop for a drink (hot chocolate) and go out for dinner whenever my hubby is home.

It's ok Pink Lady, it's only a maybe and I'm thinking that I would like to live somewhere quieter and with a backyard.

Is he perhaps being posted at Stirling? Garden Island

My parents have had a holiday house in Shoalwater bay for the last 20years and it's where I've spent loads of time. Great walking (easy walk along the foreshore into Rockingham) and very close to the base. There are lots of great places for coffee in Rockingham itself. My inlaws live in Safety bay and have been happy there for a number of years.

Definitely check out the link tank girl posted - and see how you go

 good luck on your move to WA...hard to tell what's best for your family / lifestyle... can always move when you're here. Yes, WA inc. Perth metro is very different from Sydney. eg. our city is like Hornsby lol. We've bad public transport system. It take you a whole day to get to & from your destination which may take 15 min by car to get there. Get a good car. Don't be too disappointed when you pop over.

Yoga & all that has a better following in metro based suburbs linked to hospitals & large recreational facilities. It's the supply & demand thing lol. Off hand can't recall list of where yoga joints are. Bunk with mates 1st. that be a good way to figure out where to live.

Warning Fremantle township has a family friendlier café strip- not too far from Mandurah (over 30 min drive). Northbridge café strip has more oriental cuisines but it is also the party zone for yuppies, gangs, hookers & drug dealers. Not safe past 10 pm for families.

Take care. 118

what does FBW mean?
Rockingham is ideal if you like beaches, fresh air and family stuff...yeh you do have to travel abit back to Freo or city for more cosmo scene you prob used to...but it seems to be a very popular choice with young families now...there are heaps of new build villages going up with parks, adn village centres and nowhere further than 10 minute drive to beach...
the restaurants on the strip are nice especially Emmas on the Boardwalk... I agree Freo more cafe culture but only a 30 min drive and nice day out...
The train line coming in will make services awesome in that only 20 odd minutes to city and also the train stops near to Garden city (the best mall in Perth by far)...give this area 9 months and heaps will have changed both Kwinana and Rockingham having new mall face lifts, cafes and village centres going up in the new build burbs and as I said the train due to start very soon...
GOOD LUCK :)
PS I moved here from UK 2 years ago and down to Rockingham area a year ago - it has taken time to slow down to the pace here but I do love it now!
