Hi
My name is Natalie, we are moving to Karratha from perth about june/july and I'll need to make some friends. I've never really been to Karratha so if someone could enlilghten me on what kinds of stuff there is to do and what kinds of shops there are etc, would be much appriciated. :)
Hi,
I'm from Paraburdoo which is about 5 hours away from Karratha.
I've been to Karratha so many times i've lost count! :). My DS was born there.
Centro Karratha is a fantastic little shop, and its getting even bigger! It has K-Mart, Target Country, Jay Jays, Surf Shops, Betts and Betts, Subway, Bakers Delight and Thingz. Just across from the shopping centre they have McDonalds and Chicken Treat. They also have an Eagles Boy Pizza Shop!
About 20kms away is Dampier, which is where the port is located. Point Samson, Wickham and Roebourne also arent too far away!
Karratha is a gorgeous little town (very muggy though!). We are looking at moving to Wickham in a few years time.
Who is your partner employed by?
Aww noooooo!!!!!!!!!!!
We only just met you and you are leaving us already?:(
Good luck with the move hun!:hugs: I dont think there are too many BH'ers up that way though which is sad. Maybe check out www.playgroupwa.com.au to see if they have any playgroups up there that you can join and make friends!!!
Still sad you are going though.

Hi,
I'm in Karratha, but we only moved up here a little less than a month ago.
It is a great little town, although I haven't been able to get out much yet because i've got pretty bad morning sickness, but hopefully i will be able to get out and explore soon.
It's really muggy here, I'm from near Kalgoorlie so we thought that we'd cope ok with the heat but it is taking a bit to get used to the humidity though. The locals don't seem to notice it though so i've got my fingers crossed.
There is a lot to do here, lots of things to go and see. The shops are good as well, they have extended trading here which is good with shift work.
Hope I can tell you more when i feel a bit better :)
I lived up in Karratha when I was a child and it was one of the BEST places! There are a lot of places to go camping and 4WDing and it is AWESOME! The community is large enough that not everyone knows everyone elses business, but small enough to have a really great community vibe to it.
It has been a while since I have been up there (I didn't know there was a Maccas there!) but from what I hear, it is still a great place to raise a family. I plan on moving there in a few years to start my teaching career.
Good luck with the move and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

 Been there for about 6 years now? We once drove all the way there for a Maccas burger.. (Pre children of course ).

hi...i lived there for a couple of years and am now in perth since september last year... met some lovely friends through mother's groups there... and know of 2 play groups friends go to who i can put you in touch with (pm me if you'd like their details).. for little ones, there are a few various programs running..swimming lessons, kindygym, music... you're lucky you're going up in winter..you'll be eased into the hot months which can be horrendous, but thank god for air con. the town has basically everything you need there, and the shopping centre is quite good. huge coles and woolies trading late every night... if you'd like to know anything specially then let don't hesitate to ask..

Thanks everyone for your input. It sounds great up there, I love the country. I'm origanally from country Victoria so I know what small towns are like. you either click or you dont. I used to Live in Tom Price (left when i was about 8) so i know how hot it can get although i'm used to vic weather lol.
I'm glad we're going up in winter too!!!
DH is employed by Woolies training as manager atm. Has to finish that b4 we go. Should be good I feel like I have friends up there already and I will check the playgroup site closer to the time.
Thanks again

Nat. It's just like Tom Price (on speed), but 30 times the size and with a lot less red dust... Sorry Melo, but you know it's true.
I'd move back to Karratha in a split second if I could, Kspent most of my life running around that patch. What suburb are you moving into? The schools have a really good name. District hospital, all the main banks, all the main services... It's all there
Polony, they even have a Subway now!
Take my advice, around this time of the year (getting cooler), head down to the Tambrey Centre on a Sunday evening, dip the kids in the pool, have a cold drink and a basket of wedges and you'll think you're in paradise.

    Oh god, i'm laughing out loud here!!!
Yes, well Karratha is a LITTLE bit better then Tom Price.. Although I think Paraburdoo is better then both of them!
Karratha has grown so much, and is going to continue to grow.
I prefer Dampier, just a bit more quieter!
Oh WOW! I remember the Tambrey Centre!! It wasn't far from my house and it was so FLASH! We used to swim all day while mum and dad would quietly get sloshed with their friends! :)
I have to agree, the schools are great! I went to Millars Well and Tambrey and they were both so good. I have lots of fond memories.

I'm gonna go and check out Tom Price when I get up there see how much its changed. or not lol. I only remember it as a 6 year old.
Good the schools all have a good name, makes it easier wherever we live.
