spotlight, Big W, kmart.

About $3 a ball, and for longies, I'd go for 3 - 4 50g balls.

if she can knit in the round then this one is cute too I reckon - I'm getting mum to try these for Jet - cargo longies (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEsummer05/PATTcargo.html)

100purewool.com is great - I get 1 pair of capris out of 1 ball of BFL. Its reasonably priced and soooo soft. Only prob is postage takes about 4 wks!

Depending on size - 200grams 8 ply should be enough for longies.

I recommend Tiny Birds.
