The time has come. Every bit of woolly nappy cover thing that I own needs a wash.

Do I wash, dry and then lanolise, or do I wash and lanolise whilst still wet and then dry?

Hand Wash: wet through with warm water (babys' bath temperature) and gently rub them on the inside with a bar of wool soap. Don't rub too hard. Soak them for 10 minutes in approx.

Rinse with water at baby's bath temperature. The most important thing is to use the same temperature water throughout. It is changes in temperature that can 'shock' the wool, causing it to shrink, rather than the actual water temperature. Squeeze water out and then roll in a towel to get excess water out

Squeeze a pea sized amount of solid lanolin into a jar with a lid and add very hot water and a generous squirt of wool shampoo or baby shampoo, replace the lid and shake vigorously to mix. Put the mixture into a tub or the sink and add warm water until it's at approx. baby bath temperature, then put the Woolies into the mix, squeeze the lanolin mix through the wool. Leave to soak, preferably overnight, agitating the cover occasionally. No need to rinse. Squeeze water out and roll in a towel again.

Then flat dry

So no, no drying in between washing and lanolising.

Great instruction Karni!!

But I'm super lazy and unless the covers actually have dirt (poo, food, etc.) on them I just lanolise them because the water has the wool wash in it anyway and it soaks in there for ages too. They ALWAYS come out feeling, looking and smelling clean.

I do that, but with the teeniest drop of wool wash or baby shampoo, not a big squirt. If the lanolin is well melted, it takes very little surfactant to disperse it.

I use organic wool wash with 50% lanolin and add a little liquid lanolin. You could also use baby shampoo.

I just washed mine this morning in wool wash and then rinsed it out and squeezed dry. Now it is soaking in melted lanolin in a tub of warm water. Is that going to work? why do you need the wash stuff in with the lanolin?

I've never even heard of adding wool shampoo/baby shampoo to the lanolin! Why?????

My routine consists of wool wash, light rub if they're really dirty then leaving to soak for 10 or so minutes. Rinse. Add liquid lanolin to boiling water in a small icecream container. Fill tub with lukewarm water (enough to cover soakers) then add soakers. Pour over liquid lanolin water. Leave at least 30 mins, or if I've done it in the late arvo I leave it overnight.
Roll in towel lightly, dry flat in shade.

It disperses solid lanolin - reduces the clumpy-grease-stains effect.

I use baby shapoo or wool wash just to 'wash' the woollies. Its also easier !
