Hi, the current age for the chicken pox vaccination is 18mths. I was just wanting to find out if you can get it done earlier and how much earlier. Iv'e heard you can get it done around 12mths. I know you have to pay for it and you probably need two needles. Has anyone got their child vaccinated earlier than suggested?

I haven't got my girls done yet, byt the time i remembered for Mac, i was pregnant and didn't want to get her done in case it affected me and the bub.

I was told 10 months, and as soon as Charlee is old enough i'm gonna get them both done as its running rampant around here at the moment!

Don't know if I can be much help, but I asked my dr about getting it earlier and he said not until 18 months. :)

When I had DD2 in 2004, the pead told me to get her chickenpox done at 12 months (which I think I had done with DD1 as well and I thought it still only needed one needle).

BUT when we got to 12 months, my GP wanted to wait until 18 months, so that's when we had DD2 done.

I don't know if something changed in 2004/5 or whether this is just diff docs opinions. I'm thinking that the gov deciding to pay for the vac once they get to 18 months is *prob* based on an agreed recommendation. (Imagine if it was rec from 12 months, but the gov said "we're only paying after 18 months", there'd be an uproar :D ).

Cheers

The recommendation is 18months and the Docs I have asked have said they won't do it any earlier.

However, they will do it if bubs has been exposed to chicken pox.

Unfortunately for me, Tayla got CP before she could have the needles - I wouldn't wish it on anyone or their bub! After 5 nights of no sleep, we have reached turning point.
