Smelly BP's - am I the only one????

I find my BP's smell after just one use. I wash all the nappies on cold, but find if I do this with the BP's they still stink and I end up rewashing them on hot to get rid of the smell.
I mostly use them as a cover over BB's as I'm used to the absorbancy (I find the BP inserts don't last very long, despite how beautifully lush they are!).

These are my first other type of nappy, I've always use fitteds. The PUL covers I use the majority of the time don't stink after every use, in fact I usually have to wash them because they're dirty not because they stink.


Does anyone else have this problem..........or is it just me?:(


I love them to bits because of how luxurious they are, but the down side is the ponginess.

mine have never smelled.

sometimes the hemp in the GKs smell (always overnight) but you said you weren't using the inserts, so i don't know what could be smelling.

No smells here either, sorry. I usually wash nappies on hot though, so maybe that's why?

Is it the BP cover or the insert that smells, or both?

It's the cover that smells, whether I use the inserts or just over another fitted nappy.
It doesn't seem to be the PUL part of it but in the leg area where the minkee joins.

how strange! have you tried doing a hot hand wash to see if that makes a difference?

Nope, haven't tried handwashing. Don't particularly want to add to my handwashing pile!
Whether I wash them with a load of nappies or a load of clothes it doesn't matter - they still come out smelly. Except if I do a hot wash.

While with other covers, I just air out between uses. I don't do this with my BP's because of the polyester on the inside.. it dries out smelly... must hold onto the wee a bit or something?? :confused: Sorry, can't help but I know just what you mean. :yes: I wash my BP covers each time. And my Bummis cover too, because it's 'sandwhich pul', also with polyester on the inside.
Unlike my Tots Bots, which just had the pul on the inside- it never smelled.

thanks pookiesossige, I actually thought the BP inside was PUL which is why I couldn't work out why they would smell but not my other pul covers.

So do many people reuse them over and over, just adding a new insert when the last one is wet? I don't understand how people can do this as when ours is wet it's really wet!!

Mine don't smell but I always do a warm/hot wash.They do however make R's legs really red where the minkee is?? I'm afraid she may be allergic or something... :(

My BB covers are sandwich PUL too - but I reuse them a few times before washing. I think with covers, if the nappy is changed before it is sopping then the cover should'nt get too wet, so it won't get smelly. I don't like covers where the PUL is facing out.
I couldn't use the berry plush covers again with another insert - but I can use it again as a cover over fitteds, it doesn't get smelly for me.
