i posted this in another section but thought this is probably the more appropriate area:yes:

hoping you BH's can help me with your experiences of rocker/swing/bouncers etc..

it is becoming evident we MUST invest in one of these items for our Silent Reflux bub:gloomy: ..
"&"
maybe even colic???/lactose intolerance [we are still investigating] he will probably have to sleep in it if we can find a comfy/safe enough one...

what have you got [experienced]..
good points/bad points.. average cost.. where did you get it.. [we will likely have to travel a great distance to find ours, so we want to have an idea of where]..

do you have a reflux bub? what does your bub sleep in...

I have a baby with CHRONIC reflux. She is on Losec and Zantac and we elevate her cot so she sleeps comfy. We just put some large bricks(about 25cm high) under one end of the legs and it's perfect. Swings can make things worse,it's the movement, We prop her up on the lounge, or sit her in a rocker chair that doesn't rock.

With the right meds and an upright cot, we haven't had any issues, If u have a good stroller that elevates, you could use that for sleeps, beware of sleeping in rockers, often they won't sleep anywhere else as they get bigger!!!

Hi there,

I have a reflux bub and it definitely disturbs his sleep. The only place we could get him to have decent long naps was in his capsule because it was more upright (this was when we didn't realise he had reflux).

When we finally went to the Dr, he told us to put him on some Mylanta and it has worked a treat. He has been sleeping soo much better doing 5-6hr strectches at night whereas previously I was up every 3 hourly.

We elevated his bassinet with some old textbooks, and will probablt try to reduce the Mylanta once his gut hasbeen given a chance to heel.

I nearly caved in to buying a swing (bub loves the motion), but I didn't want to regret it in the future if he couldn't self-settle because I wanted to teach him good sleeping habits.

I agree with everything you said.

If your baby's sleep is being disturbed a lot because of reflux you might need to see about putting him on medication or changing meds if he is already on some. Propping the cot up is also really helpfully and I also found both my reflux babies liked dummies. reflux babies aften find sucking helps ease the pain.
While rockers are great for them when they are awake I would avoid using them all the time to sleep in as they will probebly start to refuse to sleep anywhere else.
I know what its like to have a reflux baby that doesn't sleep, you would try anything just to get them to sleep.I think getting his reflux under controled (with meds if neccerary) will help his sleeping.

Good luck I hope this pick up soon:hugs:

i totaly agree with kiwibird as usual, i also have a chronic refluxer and the best thing you can do is try and get the medication sorted out, try thickened feeds (only helps a bit) and elevate teh head of teh cot or if your funds permit get a AR pillow(you can find them oo internet) they are great my DD doesnt sleep pn hers any more as she is 1 year old and doesnt like the straps but when she did it made so much difference i was amazed her apnea reduced and so did the night waking from the reflux she went from not sleeping at all in bed to up to 3 hours at a time i know doest sound alot but in comparison it is, now she is older we just prop her cot up but we are looking into getting her a comfy lift bed its also specialy made for reflux kids only cost about 1000 dollars to buy and ship to aus

I have a silent reflux bub. She had bad at birth and it was affecting her oxygen levels so she had to stay in Special care for 5 days.(Hardest 5 days of my life)

The doctors eventually put her onto thickened formula (Yup,just added karicare to it) and she flourished on it. Although ive since changed it from Heinz+Karicare to Karicare HA-AR and its been even better for her. I also have her sleeping on an angle in bed, having her head higher so its easier on her chest area for her.

I also burp her atleast 3times during a feed.

Hope this helps!:hugs:
