What Hospital are you going to?

It hit me last night that its possible some of us will rub shoulders in the hospitals - wouldnt that be freaky - having a fellow bub hubber in the room next door!!!!!

I am going to St Vincents Private, and when we had our physio / ladies class 4 weeks back I remember there were 30-40 ladies all due in August and I thought - what IF WE ALL POP ON SAME DAY???!!!!!

I think I have too much time on my hands, must be that!!!

I am going to the Family birth centre at the Mercy. I was there last time and it was great! (as far as giving birth can be great....)

where is that one? Werribee or Heidelberg?

How is it different to a hospital - Birth centres sound so relaxed and great - are they?

I'm actaully 'from' Melbourne, born and bred, but moved to Sydney when DD was 5 months old.

I had her at Mitcham Private, and would have this one there again if I was still in Melbourne.

Sorry to butt in :D ...

but birth centres are midwife run and are a lot more "natural" - ie. the most intervention you can have at a birth centre is gas and/or pethedine - if you ask for an epidural, have a c-section etc then you are transferred to the birthing suites in the hospital.

I was actually booked in the Mercy Birthing Centre (Heidelberg) for my August bub but unfortunately miscarried - with this bub I decided to go back to my OB just for peace of mind since she does scans every visit rather than the birthing centre which you visit midwives for instead.

Birthing centres are great if you prefer natural births but there is a very high percentage of transfer out patients (ie. those that book in but end up in the hospital birthing suites because of intervention and most of them are first time mums and people wanting the epi).

Hope this helps!

Box Hill for us too 'due in august' - I have had two there and give them:thumbsup: completely!!

Had my seconda at Mitcham - didn't think the money/private heath cover was worth it!

1 Had to wait for a birthing suite to be available (in obvious labour (holding onto walls)

2 The midwives really aren't too hands on - they wait for advice from your doctor b4 they do ANYTHING

3 There was no room in maternity, so we were put upstairs in a make-shift maternity ward - no trimmings no nursery to bath baby in (which is supposed to be one of the luxuries) no change table like in the mat.ward...

4 Was all temp staff...

5 Last but not least!!! My EPIDURAL DID NOT ARRIVE!!!:banghead: The upside to that is, I did not have to PAY him!!!

BTW Dr Cohn - who was my OB (VeryGood) delivers at boxhill, along with heaps of other OB from Mitcham!
