and is it better to run for 10 mins say or walk for 20 (those arent the exact times but you know wat im asking? is it better to go harder for shorter time or pace it out for longer times?)

With the weights question, I'd still go on level 4 before weights. IMO it would be good to give your body a good warm up and if thats the normal level then it sounds good to me! I normally do a 5 minute run before weights and I do it at the same level as I run for half an hour.
Is running very difficult for you? If it is and you're just starting out I'd say walking for a longer distance would be better. Unless running is a breeze then I guess go for it.
When I started out I used to walk for about half an hour on level 5- 5.5 and then I increased the speed up to 6- 6.5. After a while when my weight loss slowed down I was introduced to jogging for 15 minutes on 7.5 then walking the other. So my recommendation would be start with the walking and build yourself up!
I hope that makes sense and helps
Fitness nut...here i am!!!!:D
Before and after any weights i do heaps of different stretches to warm my muscles up. Gives me much better performance.

Hi Suemp
Firstly - congratulations on joining the gym and taking those first tough steps towards becoming fitter
I agree with Babylover - if running is tough, then I would walk at a brisk pace to start off with and increase the pace as you progress. I couldn't run for 5 mins when I started and now I can go for hours!
The trainers there should do a up a program for you based on what you want to achieve. Basically, nothing should hurt - but when doing cardio - if you can chat then you're not working hard enough!
Take advantage of the staff there, don't be afraid to ask questions and don't let yourself be initimated by the gym - we were all new once!
I also find my iPod a godsend - it's good to have some music that really gets you going and it makes the time go quicker!
... and ... DEFINITELY perve on the hot boys - it's a gym-junkie pre-requisite :D
Go Girl !! :smiliedance:
