Can anyone tell me what the ideal heart rate is (when excersising) for losing weight. I thought it was below 120bpm but hubby seems to think that it is above 120bpm.

I am very confused now????? Does anyone know.

Hi there

The best heartrarte for fatbrning is....

220 - your age = your max. heartrate
then 60-70% of that.

eg.
I am 29 so
220 - 29
= 191
60% x 191
= 114.6
70% x 191
= 133.7

So my fatburning zone is 114.6 - 133.7 bpm:)
It is quite slow really, you would be surprised at how little you have to do to get your heartrate to that point. At this heartrate your body will be burning primarily fat for fuel, once you go higher, you will burn sugar.

Although the heartrate is lower for fatburning you need to sustain it for a longer time (optimally at least 40 minutes.)

85% of your max. heartrate is the 'high end' zone of cardio exercise, good for increasing and really pushing your cardio vascular fitness (which IMO is just as important as fatburning:)
