This morning DD was doing her usual tanty, she had just woken up and was starving. Usually i feed solids first, but this morning I couldnt be bothered and grabbed a premade bottle out of the fridge, I noticed lately she has been holding the bottle aided by me, so today I put her on the floor on a boomerang pillow and gave her the bottle. She fed herself and drank the whole lot.
Now she is only eight months, is this ok? I supervised her the whole time...
I have just found she has a hissy fit lately when bottle feeding, and this morning t hought I would try something new.
Is this safe? Normal? not that there is such a thing normal I mean... does any one else do it?
Yes I think its very normal.
PJ will be 9 months this Friday and the only way I can get him to have a whole bottle is to let him give it to himself.
A friend of mine started 'propping' the bottle up for her little girl when she was 4 months old and she was around 6 months when she could hold it herself.
I personally waited till my boys found they could do it themselves, it's lovely having cuddle time when they have their bottles.

I waited until Mac was 6 months & could hold it herself, and then most of the time apart from her last feed at night (which was cuddle time), she fed herself. Unless we were out of course and she couldn't lie down somewhere.
If she's happier doing it that way, then i think its fine...at least she's getting what she needs without the grizzling, and without mum stressing! You just have to keep an eye out that she doesn't choke and she can get the bottle out if she does?

I think T was 4-5 months when she started holding her own bottle, it makes life SOOOO much easier!
and yeah to Becky!! I cant wait for the weetbix either!!
Both my 2 were about 8 mths when they started to hold the bottle themselves, it came in handy when I was getting my DD breakfast, Ds could feed himself.
Becky and Mummy2-2 I don't wish to make you Jealous but DS is 13mths and has been feeding himself weetbix for about a month now, although if i turn my back he eats it with his hands :o

oh fantastic. guilty trip gone! So far today she has had three bottles and drunk all three and fed all three to herself. I have been struggling to get her to take a whole bottle for months now! V happy.
Hi all,
Thomas has been holding his own bottle for a few months now, geez it's been brilliant. I had terrible trouble putting him down for his sleeps before he could hold it himself. Now I just lay him in bed and give him the bottle and when he's done he throws it out of the cot and goes to sleep. :D (I then have the trouble of finding the bottle when he wakes up, but it's a small price to pay).
The only time that I have had trouble, is when he figured out how to unscrew the cap and I had a whole cot full of milk  ! I don't give him avent bottles in bed anymore. Tommee Tippee and Little Wishes bottles he hasn't figured out yet - you can screw them a bit tighter.

i love holding my almost one year old son when he drinks his bottle.
i missed out on this closeness because i was unable to breastfeed, i really enjoy that time with him. even when he wants to hold the bottle himself i still hold him in my arms.
remember they are only little once, enjoy this time
peace
