View Full Version : Hemp vs Bamboo
What do you prefer?
I like the softness of bamboo, but not really the 'feel' iykwim? It sort of eeks me, lol.
But I think that hemp is a little rough..
What do you prefer, and why?
Im going to order a bb pack as soon as bubs comes, and wondering what to get, especially with winter coming, and Im thinking about the drying time....

Definitely bamboo here. I like the feel, the softness and absorbency of bamboo compared to hemp. Also bamboo BB's are better fitting, less wing droop and come in some gorgeous colours instead of the plain natural colour.
The downside is the drying time but hey you cant have it all, it shows just how absorbent they are.

No I like bamboo velour slightly more...because it is so silky and divine.

:o Heh....I know Im hopeless...I just luff all my nappies......they are like my children
I know what you mean about the feel of bamboo... it is a little like cotton wool iykwim. My sister cannot stand the feel of it (or felt, lol).
I like bamboo for how absorbant it is though.. bamboo velour just feels divine!!
So is bamboo more absorbant than hemp?? Just wondering as I have never used either but ordered bamboo from tea lady.
Oh good, at least I can use that as an upside when I tell DH about it and he tells me we didn't really need it. Well we don't but I'm gunna make boosters and try AI2's so it will get used!
I haven't tried Hemp yet, but i do have some bamboo ones, and i love them, they are so soft and i use them for over night nappies and they don't leak.

Hemp is much better for colder weather..Bamboo takes forever to dry.
I do love the softness of Bamboo, but in Melbourne I will wait 3 days for the bamboo to try to have it poo'd in within 5 minutes of putting it on bub
It can get pretty frustrating.
Some nappies have a combination of bammboo and hemp (eg bits for bots fitted) which seems to work well for drying time.
I do like bamboo the best even in pockets. We'll have to revert to using the old terries in winter if everything else takes too long to dry!
I am not keen on baby beehinds for my bub. I do prefer bamboo towelling and velour is okay too. I also like sherpa and organic cotton.
I live in Melbourne and drying time can be an issue. I wash every second day and have enough to last in between drying so its fine having bamboo> i do have quick dry nappies which are fantastic.

Exactly, I have that same feeling with bamboo, lol, I have bamboo velours from cute tooshies, and B/V are the worse for that feeling, but they are gorgeous nappies.. Its not so bad with the straight bamboo/cotton like BBB with me..
After doing my prewashes with my new BBB and CTB's, they took a good 2 days, then about 20min on the low dryer, Im really worried how long they are going to take to dry in the winter, lol, and going to stock up heaps on BBH, I think..
I have heaps of pockets, what else would be quick drying?
Ooh, are inserts Bamboo/hemp ok to go straight in the dryer in winter, and dry complete in the dryer, say on medium or even hot dry if Im desperate?
I was also thinking, about cutting up terries and using them for inserts, cause that way, I can dry them quick, iykwim??

Tots Bots bamboozles are pretty quick to dry - better than my BBH bamboo... but they don't have snaps :banghead: well, yet anyway!
And yep, I think it's safe to pop them in the dryer. The weekend was a bit rainy here, and I had them on the clothes horse all day, then finished them off in the dryer for about 1/2 an hour before I went to bed.
Flats will work in pockets - but you will need to change sooner, or maybe boost with a microfibre cleaning cloth.
