We have had a wonderful relationship with 'Pillow' for a while now. He has kept Oliver company through all sorts of traumas (falling over, scary palm trees etc). But Oliver has learned the truth about his beloved Pillow. He has a twin.
I wash one and give him 'The Imposter' while the other is in the wash.
O caught me today........ :o
He looked very confused for a period of time, and has now decided that 'The Imposter' is just as important as 'Pillow'. So now we need to carry around 2 pillows where ever we go. There must be two pillows in bed, in the pram when we go walking and even when we are shopping.
Now he gently stokes 2 pillows while going to sleep.

What comfort items do your kids have?
Do they have a special relationship?
Please tell me my child is not the only one in love with a pillow. :o

LOL E I call O's infatuation with his muslin wraps and his "Dolly" his fetish :p coz he is obsessed with them!!!

If he sees one of his muslin wraps on the line or folded in the laundry basket waiting for me to put it away he will go crazy and demand to have it! Then he carries it/them around, chewing on it and rubbing it on his face and just loving it up :D

I swear his fetish will go too far one day and he will be smothered by muslin wraps and "Dolly"

Yes, what's with the rubbing on the face thing. It must feel nice or something. When O gets tired he will just lie there rubbing it over his closed eyes.

:p hehehehe isnt it sooo cute, O will lie on the ground head down Butt in the air and snuggle up to his wrap while chewing dolly's leg

Dolly doesnt mind LOL I never hear a peep out of him!

Ohhh, thats so cute!!

T doesnt have a fave thing atm. Wont sleep without brahms lullaby playing tho, is that the same? Haha not really the same huh?

My best friends little sister used to have a doll that she LOVED, so her mum bought every one that they had in the shop as they were discontinuing it, so she would have one if one got lost etc :p

DD has too many comfort items to count. We started with a dozen baby washcloths that she would hold and rub while falling asleep, particularly the tag bit. Gradually we lost (or she disdained) all but one grubby washcloth. I asked my SIL to buy more in Canada and send them so I would have a back up one or two. SIL sent another dozen. For a day DD was ecstatic and walked around with the whole armful. But now she's said no to them all and only wants the original one .

When we go out we will have at least one bear and possibly 2 bears plus cot blanket coming with us. Along with dummy of course. Today we got one of those huge Pooh Bear dolls at the ToysRUs. She wouldn't let go of it for hours. I'm in trouble if she decides to latch onto it!

LOL Martha, that pooh bear would need his own booster seat!
Yes as well as the pillows we also have 'Pluggy' (his dummy), which joins us.
It's cute really, but like you I don't really want to lug the whole household around with us (giant pooh included!). One cot pillow was enough!

She's started to let go of her favorite yellow bear, thank goodness. She no longer insists on having it in the high chair with her (stinky stinky yogurt soaked bear, ugh) and will leave it in her stroller now at the park instead of carrying it everywhere. It didn't even come to the shops with us! So I have high hopes that Pooh will NOT be a replacement and one day soon she'll have 2 free hands and my purse will not have spare bears and washcloths stuffed in it. And maybe we'll even lose the dummy one day soon. Still, it was so cute to see her walking up the street dragging this huge Pooh behind her by one ear. I wish I'd had the video camera with me!

these stories are all so cute, they have made me smile :) cooper has 2 'bubbas', small dolls, that he likes to take to daycare and sometimes bed with him. he also has other dolls which have to come places with us at various times, as well as his 'bobo' (bottle), i no longer take bobo out with us though, but let him have it as a treat when we get home and he wants to lie down and have a rest, and at bedtime :)

Don't worry Happy Rady, a pillow is fine - at least it is easily replaced !!

DS1's comforter is a cow that my sis bought in France called "Madame Marguerite" (has been since he was about 6mths old).

She's not your average looking cow, she has a yellow body (which is now more the colour of an avacado) a green vest and long arms and legs (may have to add her to my avatar!!)........

Anyway DS1 will not (absolutely under no circumstances) go to bed without "madame", he sucks on her tail which doesn't really resemble a tail anymore and she has been through the wash too many times to remember.

I don't wash her much in winter as there is not much drying time between sleeps and one day DS1 saw her hanging on the clothes line and was horrified

It would be a nightmare if we ever lost her, I may have to make a trip to France to fetch a new one (not a bad idea now I come to think of it  )

Happy Lady, that is so cute... :p two pillows, are you going to get another replacement???

All the stories are cute, DS has many toys that he loves but can take them or leave them depending on his mood...

I love all these stories - aren't these babies so gorgeous? I send you my sympathy, Martha, with a handbag full of bears and washcloths!
Libby's particular favourites are "twin brother" bears - just two little teddies, one brown, one white - that her big brothers gave her as a present when she was born. She loves stroking them gently as she goes to sleep, and not only needs dummy replacement in the middle of the night, but also teddy replacement.
When she is awake in the morning, ie. ready to get up, she always wants to bring one, sometimes both, teddy(ies) downstairs to the living room.
Oh, and she likes cuddles with them, and biting their noses - really really savagely. Poor teds.

We're not at the stage yet (hopefully never!) where they need to leave the house with us.

My son has an attachment to his blue fleecy blanket with a lion on it, and his teddy "irvan" whom lives in his bed.
Not that strange really considering when young I had a thing for a little brown bear named Bill until he met with an unfortunate lawnmower accident and became an amputee.
Needless to say he was only half of his former self ...........?!!

We have a pillow as well. Though we have a couple of different covers, but they have to be teddy bears done in candle wicking. Nat feels for the knots when he's asleep and he knows if they're facing the right way or not!!!

There are so many cute stories!!
Glad O isn't abnormal (not that I ever really thought he was!).
The whole obsession can drive me a bit nuts. He loves to play in a tub with a little water in the bottom. The other day I turned around and he is sitting in it, with the pillow!!

I have a teddy bear from when I was a baby and Nat took him into the bath with him... apparently he was hot

tickle
12-12-2005, 21:17
Well it is rather hot out your way. He was just being a responsible parent. ;)
My DH has a doll from his childhood called "Timmy", how cute is that.
O doesn't really like to play with it, unless it is lying flat on the floor and O open mouth kisses it.

Sarie
12-12-2005, 21:21
Hmm interesting!!!
Yes he was being responsable, though I don't think my teddy was too happy. He now sits on my bedside table till Nat is a bit older.
Most of his stuffed toys are my old ones from childhood. My DH is amazed that they are in such good condition, but I loved my toys and they always had better beds than me ;)
It's scary to think how old some of them wuold be now

I have a lot of my toys from when I was little.
I got a 'big ted' when I was born that I still have now. O just gets to look but not touch. Big meany I am.
He enjoys my old Cabbage Patch Kid though. It has something loose in its head that rattles around. As a little girl my sister used to tell me it had brain damage. :(

I still have my cabbage patch kid and some of the original Care Bears, I have the original Master's of the Universe set at my mum's place.

Only the cool kids had the Masters of the Universe!!!
We have some Care Bears hanging around here too. Maybe I should save them and re wrap them for birthdays, they seem to be back in fashion and cost a fortune!!! :p

Hehehe, I was so cool ;) ;)
We got Castle Greyskull for Christmas on year and we thought that was the coolest thing!
Wade found the 'new' version is Toyworld about 6 months ago and it looked a bit sad, not as cool as what I remember!

My kids have mink blankets that although they are not obsessed with them, if we take them with us they will settle to sleep anywhere with no fuss.

It really is a good thing to have a toy or blanket etc that your child feels safe with ... it makes anywhere just like home!

Hannah has Ellie the Elephant. It is her bedtime comforter.

Whenever I have to wash it she sits in front on the front loading washing machine and won't move until it is finished. Then she sits with it whilst it is drying in front of the heater.

She sucks on it so much that the arms have no colour on them - icky.

Learnt once never to put it in the dryer (hands melted  ).

I can't find a replacement so heaven help me if she ever looses it or it falls apart! Have looked everywhere and can't find a twin. Have tried their company but they don't sell Ellie lookalikes anymore :(

I have bought Bec a monkey made by the same company but haven't given it too her yet.

Arwen has had a a lamaze soft dolly from about 7 months of age , i had to buy another one as it was too hard to wash and dry one of them and have it ready for a nap ( especially winter). Though the second one is blue and the original is pink, but she has not seemed to notice yet!!!!
She has it only during her night and day sleep or when sick, she places it near her mouth and nose and sucks/sniffs??

I saw some beautiful dolls for bubs on www.organictradingco.com

They are so cute if O didnt already have a dolly I would get him one LOL soooo cute :D They also are great coz they reflect different cultural backgrounds ie they have a gorgeous black dolly named Whoopie :p and a cute little asian doll named Susie :) and lots more.....very very cute, did I mention they were cute LOL
