Well I just had the scariest Dr's appointment ever!

My Dr couldn't find the baby's heart beat - it took a second Dr and almost half an hour all up to find it!!

Talk about stress!

Apparently all is good and the baby is a good size - plus the Dr felt him/her kick.

Has anyone else had this happen before?

Hiya,

This happened at my 16 week check up, and my obstetrician couldnt find anything...and what made matters worse is that week leading up to appointment, I had really bad diarhoah (sorry for the info!) and also throwing up because of food poisoning and i was SURE the baby had not survived....but she told me to relax and that the baby's placenta would not have allowed the germs into baby's food stream etc etc...and a minute later my baby's heart beat was found and going WOMP WOMP WOMP WOMP!

I hope it doesnt happen at my 20 week scan on monday... because i want my baby to be waving and doing a dance!!!!

its a scary thing isnt it? You suddenly think - what if, hey?

It sure is very scary! You must have been really frightened after having had food poisoning..... poor thing.

The main reason I was totally freaking out is because it happened to one of my best friends a few months ago at 16 weeks - only her twins had passed away and there was no heart beat! After going through all of that with her it is definitely my worst nightmare.

I bet you can't wait to see your lil bub dancing about at that 20 week scan!! :smiliedance:

Its not nice for sure, i know with my last pregnancy they always had problems finding a heart beat they midwive doing them or the GP at the time would look concerned till i told them it always happened.I have to admit though sometimes i even got a little worried as it seemed to take forever sometimes
I think its every ones worst fear though but totally understand how you would have felt at the time

My mum had a scary check up once (I was there) this old lady doctor who she never saw but had to coz there was no other appointments told her " I cant find the heart beat " "but dont worry" like WTF thats the first thing you do.....She also had this male doctor at the hospital that was doing a routine check and told her that he wanted to do a "breast examination" for no apparent reason. She refused and asked another Doctor why he would do that and he said I have no Idea thats no routine at all... Gross huh!!

My friend and I were preg together - and she was having TWINS...but she lost hers at 12 weeks....I have been a bit more scared now since that....but I have never feared much and always thought things would be normal normal normal for me....

20 week scan in just 5 days....and DH says I can find out sex if i want, but not to tell him!

Good luck EVERYONE for your BIG 20 week scans xxx

When I first found out I was preggers I didn't actually have a 'family doctor' so to speak so I just picked one at a local clinic. She recommended an ultra sound as I wasn't sure
on dates.

Anyway when I rang for results she said I had probably had a missed miscarriage and it probably wasn't a viable pregnancy. I was SHOCKED!

I looked up heaps of info online about miscarriage and nothing seemed right to me. I wasn't having any symptoms or bleeding and I just had this feeling that it was all wrong!

So I called up and asked to have the report emailed to me so I could see for myself.

When I read the report it was a whole different story. That was actually just one possibility they noted at the bottom of the report (along with ectopic pregancy and some other things) as an alternative diagnosis and the actual main part of the report said that it was just too early to tell anything at 4 weeks (which is what they thought I was).

The doctor was very young and obviously not very experienced! I have no idea why she chose to tell me that part of the report and not the rest!

I then had to have a blood test to check HCG levels which showed everything was A-OK as it should be for a 4-5 week pregnancy and it was 'viable' as they say.

I was so angry for the strees she caused me (just before I was about to go on an overseas holiday at Christmas too). Of course I immediately changed doctors (and have the BEST doctor now!).

But since then I decided that I would never take anything I'm told at face value and always check and double check before I start getting worried about anything a doctor tells me.

i think thats a wise move - doctors, bless them, can be idiots....

My GP (another stupid idiot again) told me there were "options" for me, if I was pregnant....and I looked at her in a half "WTF" and half "I dont believe it" way, and thought - does she actually think I came to the GP and burst into her rooms with a HUGE smile on my dial, begging to do the urine test (after having done 3 at home myself!!!) only to want an abortion/adoption....and I have nothing against YOUNG mums here, but I am not exactly a YOUNG mum - I am 27, and if my GP had cared to take a look at my file before I went into her room, she'd have seen that 3 months before, i came off the pill and requested blood tests to make sure my rubella was ok etc etc...and there would have been mention of TRYING TO CONCIEVE in my file...

God they can be such idiots. then she actually said "Oh, gosh, what now, what do you need to do, um, do you know who you want to see, where you want to go?" and I said yep, gimmee my referal for Sam hargreaves...and i was outta there (oh and she wouldnt let me keep my little Wee pregnancy test, darnit!)
