I was told by a colorectal surgeon yesterday that I will need surgery on both anal sphincters due to having 4th degree tearing that was somehow missed when they restiched me. I was just wondering if anyone has had this before? How long did they wait after having your bubs did they do surgery? How long did it take to recover? Im very nervous about the whole thing

hi, I haven't but a friend of mine has, several years ago. She said her surgeon was fantastic, and the pain was nowhere near as bad as the original delivery tear. She healed fast, and feels totally fine now.

She had lots of physio first to strengthen all the muscles as much as possible before the surgery. Apparently this helps recovery after the op. She was also nervous, but the final result has been well worth the effort for her. I hope that your outcome is every bit as positive!! :hugs: to you.

I just wanted to offer my support :hugs:
My cousins wife had a 4th degree tear requiring surgery but im not sure of the details.

Nor have i had this problem but had a 3rd degree tear that has resulted in a prolapse which may need surgery later down the track & i think thats a scary enough prospect. I think that as much as its a daunting prospect the way you may need to look at it is that you will go through a little bit of pain again for everything to be corrected which will make life a lot easier.

Hopefully someone on here can offer their help & give you some info.

Good luck with it all :hugs:

I'm having surgery to repair a rectal tear and vaginal scarring 11 weeks after my little boys birth. The problem was only picked up 9 weeks after the birth.
