My DS has just brought home consent forms for us to fill in regarding Hep B injections.
Can anyone give me some good links to info on this immunisation. (I'm being lazy I know)
My head is saying no, but need to do some more reading me thinks.
Thanking you in advance.

Will your newborn be having unsafe sex or using dirty needles? If not, don't get the vax.

Staying tuned ..."grovel grovel"...my impression of being intimidated, NOT
Thankyou
PS It's a 12 year old boy and I certainly hope he's not having sex or using needles.

oh :o I read it as "My dp just brought home" sorry, it's late and eyes no work good sometime :o Sorry. I hope your 12 yr old isn't doing those things either ! The other kind of general risk factors are things like stepping on a random needle. That's something that doesn't affect babies or littlies as much, but a 12 yr old isn't always in your line of sight or under your control. BUT with the whole "stepping on a needle" scenario, remember just because drug users are more likely to have a disease, doesn't mean every drug user has a disease. Also, depending on how long the needle has been left in the open, any or all of the disease ... germs... (I want to use a big smarty-pants word there but also don't want to look stupid when I choose the wrong one LOL...) may have died or been washed away. And even if you step on a needle which has been very recently used by a HIV+ person, there is still only something like a 10% chance of catching anything from the needle. So again it's a "weigh up the risks for yourself" situation.
Is the vax being reccomended for a specific situation? The reason I ask is, there's lots of different things to think about. When I went away to boarding school, I was required to have the hep B vaccine due to the high number of students living in very close quarters. That situation raised the risk of contracting the disease.

Thankyou, will read some more in the morning but from what I just read think I'll def be going with the NO box.
My DS already has **** in his body to control his epilepsy so was hesitant anyway.
If you have any info on that too The Queen I would be very interested. I did look at the diet you can do(can't remember the name, there was a movie about it though) but it had problems with poor nutritional benefit for a teenager, so maybe something to look at when he's older.

No worries.
I haven't looked into epilepsy though. But a couple of those vax articles are from the BMJ (British Medical Journal) and I really like their stuff. Their website has a search function, it might be worth having a search of epilepsy, or the medication he's currently on.

They offer Hep B and the varicella vaccine to 12 year olds because they weren't on the schedule when these kids were vaccinated as infants. My DS was vaccinated with Hep B last year. We didnt get the varicella though.
