Hi all

I am due in November this year and am trying to decide whether to go to Ashford or Burnside. We have no experience in either and looking for comments about facilities, pre and post natal care and general experiences.

Thanks

i can't really speak about a birthing experience as yet, as i'm only 30 weeks along... but i'm having my bub at burnside. so far the pre natal care has been great (my OB is Dr Karen Chandler). the staff have been really friendly, and i've had some good feedback from other friends who have birthed there.

Have you got an obstetrician yet? Because you'll probably find they may only practice at a selected few hospitals..........so an OB you may choose may not work at Ashford etc.

I had my baby at Burnside and was quite disappointed..............so I'd be seriously considering Ashford..........particularly now that you can finish off your stay at the Hilton Hotel

I agree with Missus S. Ashford all the way. I know three women who feel the same way about Burnside. Whereabouts do you live? Have you considered NECH? I haven't heard any bad reports from there.

All the best with your decision.

Hi - I had my twins at Ashford (also had an operation there recently). I was in hospital for 4 weeks, when I had my twins. I can recommend them highly. The staff were very nice and they have excellent neonatal facilities (for premmies or complications). I have heard good things about Burnside (particularly the nice rooms).

I am still TTC but I will probably go to Ashford. My GYN and will be OB works out of Ashford. I have heard only good thing. I also like the Hilton thing. My DP's best friend is living in Sweden and when they had their bundle of joy they did a similar thing with one of the Hotels. He said it was great. He was able stay there and start the bonding process at the same time as his wife. They both enjoyed sharing the experience.

Missus S is right though you need to find an OB that works at the hospital you decide to use.

All the best in your decision making.

My ob works at burnside - he was the best doc in the world. I'd have gone back with him this 3rd time if wasnt so far away now.

hi
we've just moved here and just found out i'm pregnant for the third time. we don't know any hospitals or doctors and are looking for any advice. i'd like to go and check out some hospitals and these two - burnside and ashford - were probably top of the list.
gert26 - where did you end up having your baby, who was the doctor and how did it all go?
rachel rat117 - do you know dr marlow? i heard she is the most natural at burnside. i'd like to have as natuaral a birth as i can. could you recommend anyone else? and alkso how did you like ashford?
angelwinks - who was your OB? sounds great.
thanks girls. any advice is really appreciated. i feel like i've been thrown in the deep end.

Congratulations Sassym

I went to Burnside for the births of both of my sons and I loved it. My ob for my 2nd son was Dr Chandler and she was fantastic. I did, however, have one pre-natal appointment with Dr Marlow and she also seems to be very nice.

thanks gizmoduckus. how did you find dr chandler to be intervention-wise? i've read lots of good things about her too in various chat rooms.

It is a bit hard for me to say because my labour was extremely quick with DS2 and he was a week early. She seemed to be pretty open-minded about a lot of things.

She doesn't do any pre-natal internals until the last week and the strep b swab she lets you do yourself.

When I was in labour they only monitered me for 10 mins at the beginning. I didn't have time for an epidural. She tried to get me stand up to give birth but I wanted to be on the bed and she was happy for me to do that. She didn't make me push until I felt I was ready and she was extremely calming. I didn't even have a graze and recovered extremely quickly.

My ob with DS1 was the total opposite and that is why I changed for my next birth. He just came in and used the vontuese straight away to get him out. I had a bit of tearing and it took me weeks to recover.

Hope this helps.
