Ok so i have a friend who has a 6 week old baby who is fully breastfed. Now They are going down to melbourne in 4 weeks for a wedding ( they live in brissi) that they will not be able to take the baby to so her MIL will be looking after the baby at the hotel while they are at the wedding.
Now my question is... what is her best option for feeding the baby. She is going to be gone for a total of around 8 hours and was hoping to express breastmilk and have her MIL give him that. The problem is they are only arriving in melb the day before the wedding which doesnt give her much time to express the milk she will need for the next day especially when she is bf full time. I was thinking it will take her a couple of weeks to get enough bm collected for the day and that she could freeze it but then there is the problem of getting the frozen milk to melb on the plane. maybe she could let it defrost in a cooler bag while on the plane and then put it straight into a fridge when they get to the hotel. would the milk still be ok this way? it is a two hour flight.
she is starting to get very worried about the whole thing so any advice you have would be very appreciated!

If Bubs is only 6weeks she shouldn't have trouble getting extra for later. I had about 3 litres stored by the tme TJ was 6 months old. :O If she feeds from both sides each feed she could express about 1 1/2 -2 hrs before bubs is due for a feed, boobs fill in around that much time, even if she is only getting 1/2 the amount she needs, 4 weeks is heaps of time to get enough EBM. It should take about 12 hrs for EBM to defrost but if you put the bottle/container in room temp water it will defrost faster and won't destroy the nutrients. If she ends up with too much (and it stays frozen) she can use it at a later date when bubs starts solids. :)
Good luck to her!
(If the airport has a problem with fluid being in the cabin maybe it can be kept in an esky in the hold)
