Hi

I have a 17 week old. and his general routine was:

4.30am wake bottle
sleep until 7/7.30am
Awake - play
bottle at 8.30am (would only take half a bottle)
bath
nap (1 -1.5 hr)
Awake - finish other half of bottle (say about 10.30ish)
play
farex/apple (11.30./12noon)
nap (1 - 1.5hrs)
bottle at 2.00/2.30
play
nap
play
bottle at 6/6.30pm
bath, story and bed
then he would usually sleep until 4.30am.....

However it is starting to change....and i am not sure what to do.....new routine (i think)
Wake 4.30am bottle
sleep until 7.30ish
play
8.30am bottle (all)
bath
nap
12.30 bottle
play
nap
4.30 bottle
5pm farex/apple
play
6pm bed - was supposed to be a nap nut he slept til 9.30pm and stirred
so before i went to be at 9.30 i got him up and gace him a bottle
he then slep til 6.30am

(he did wake a cupla times for his dummy and went straight back to sleep. He did also wake at the usual 4.30am)

Im just not sure what to do, with the bath thing and story as i would like to continue to do that....

Should i have a play after his farex, then a bath, read a story and put him down to bed....and anutha question,s if he has a bottle at say 4.30, could i offer another at say 7/7.30? Cos if i did i could basically use the first routine....still give farex aftre his bed bottle though?

Hope all this makes sense....sorry if it doesn't....I just love the first routine, and he was great with it and he loves his bath, story and bed routine (with dad, as dad doesn't get home til at least 6/6.30pm). Dad usualy baths him also....i would still like to incorporate this.. but seems he doesn't reallyt want a nap at 6pm, he is zonked so wants to sleep for a long period (so means no bath, story)
Any advice would be great. What is your routine?
thankyou

Also if we continue with the second routine, means dad doesn't nget any time at night as bub is asleep :( then in the mornings dad gets ready for work, so sometimes doesn't get time or only gets minimum time
I was thinking i could try this.

4.30am awake and bottle
sleep until 7/7.30am
7.30am bottle - (this is a change to other routines)
play and bath time
nap
bottle at 11.30am
play
nap (1 -1.5 hr)
bottle at 3.30
play
nap (1 - 1.5hrs)
play/dad time
bottle 7.30 followed by farex/apple
bath, story and bed for the night.....
Do you think sleeping 7.45-4.30 is ok? or should he sleep longer?

It is still 5 bottles a day, it recomends 4-5 bottles (i had to stop b/f two weeks ago, so am using formula) and he may drop a bottle once that solid meal increases. The 5 bottles doesn't really bother me as they are 4 hours apart, expcet that morning one which is 3 hrs....
is this too much food for him???
thankyou once again

I think, unfortunately, you just have to go by what your baby wants to do. Ive found that trying to change it either makes them upset, or throws everything out of whack. Can dh get home a little earlier? Maybe make sure that weekends are daddy time. As they get older they will stay awake longer.

I agree with MCNmummyof2......go by what bub wants......my dd..sometimes has feeds that are only 2 hours apart....then sometimes 3.....i can tell by her cry now what she wants...i keep a diary that i write times in as well ( mainly for dp benefit..helps him to work out why bubs may be crying etc)....my dd also drinks water during the day...helps to extend between bottles.....and she winges for it now.......she is on the 95 percentile.but she was at birth.......so basically she calls the shots.....

Hey girls.

Thankyou for your reply. I go by what keanu likes/wants to. If he wants a bottle i give it to him, if he is tired i let him sleep etc. He has made his own rotuine and he likes the continutity and consistency with it. We are flexible though of course!! I have always gone by what he wants, but i just wanted to keep the bath/story thing. We have kept that, regardless of what times he has his bottles or sleeps. Things are going great, not stressing about the times of everything though, just having that general routine is working for us, that way he knows what is happening etc...they get use to it and like it i.e.....i changed his cot around about 2 weeks ago and do you think he would go to sleep, for 2 days he just cracked it when i put him to bed he has always been great at going to sleep, i can usually put him down and walk away...as soon as i changed the cot back he was out like a light. They certainly aren't dumb!!! :)
