Toadlet due 7th of March.

For 4 weeks before I had unbelievably bad carpal tunnel in my arms and couldn't sleep.. was starting to get very run down and tired.
No Braxton Hicks throughout the pregnancy. Went to acupuncture twice the week before to get things started and my tummy started contracting a little both times.
Sunday 3rd in the afternoon after trying every known method of natural induction I did the dreaded Castor Oil! Only one tablespoon though.
Felt a little nauseous about 1 hour later and needed to go to the bathroom.

DP and I were watching Clash of the Titans that evening and my tummy started contracting every three minutes.. no pains though, just very obvious BH's.
Went to bed and at 11pm I had my first contraction. By 11.30 pm they were 4 minutes apart. i got up and packed my bag and walked around till 2.30, contractions stronger and varying from 3 - 5 minutes apart. Called the birth center and they told me to come in... but the Birth Center was full so I would have to go to the Delivery Suit. Not happy!

DP and I got up and cleaned the house, contractions still strong then jumped into a cab and headed to the hospital.
I was checked out and found to be only 2 cm dilated. They said I could either go home or stay there, we went home armed with Valerian and panadeine Forte.
Went to bed in a lot of pain but managed to fall asleep. Woke up at 8am and the contractions were still very strong but had gone to every 15 minutes because of the sedation. Toddled off to acupuncture again having massive contractions on the train. That got things revving up and contractions now 5 minutes apart again. DP and I went for a walk and had lunch out. 5pm and I held off going to the hospital until the we finished watching B& the B.

Birth Center now had a room for me, was checked out and was only 3 cm dilated. Walked around, had a bath and watched tv in pain while DP tried to sleep.
By midnight the contractions were about 3 minutes apart and was now 6cm dilated. The midwife said she could break my waters if I wanted.
After an hour in the bath and bad pain on my spine, (it felt like I needed to push), my waters were broken and after 2 more hours I hadn't dilated any further.

I was given gas and felt extremely bombed out and was shaking quite a bit. Apparently I asked DP if he wanted to have a suck on the gas too.
Toadlet after being in perfect birthing position the whole pregnancy had decided to turn posterior during labour and that was why I wasn't dilating.
I didn't want to be in a smashed out state to meet my baby and was worried I wouldn't dilate any more.. so EPIDURAL!

Moved across to the delivery suit, DP carried me and took excellent care of me. I was in agony and felt like the staff were farting around getting the anesthetist

I wanted to yell at them but just sucked on the gas some more. Couldn't believe it took an hour to get it done.
I was still quite bombed out from the gas and after the epidural was given, at 4.15 am I was now 10 cm dilated. The epidural made me shake uncontrollably but was relieved to have it. DP and I were left to sleep till 5.15 am so toadlet could move down some more.

5.30 it was time to push! legs up! DP holding onto one leg and a midwife onto the other. The midwives said they had never seen such strong pushes ..( I was imagining I was doing a very hard climbing route each time they told me to push). I could still feel my stomach muscles through the epidural.

I started to feel very sick and was given maxalon and threw up twice quite badly, apologizing to DP. He gave me water and took good care of me. One benefit of throwing up though is it pushes the baby down some more! I saw them bring out a mirror for me to check his entrance but politely told them to take it away.

1.5 hours of pushing now 7am and toadlet was stuck so they called in the OB for toadlet to be suctioned out as he already had bruising on his head and they were worried about him. 2 minutes past 7 and the OB said "next push and you'll meet your baby, I turned and saw DP get very emotional and we both had a little sniffle.

I had asked them to let the cord pump , but as soon as the pulled him out and put him on my tummy they said "Sorry we have to revive him" and took him away.
The cord was wrapped around his neck and he was stunned.
Two nurses worked on him and stuck tubes down his throat, massaged him etc. for about three minutes. We were asking if he was ok but no one would say anything, When we asked if it was a boy or girl they said we can check ourselves shortly. DP was quite frightened but I knew he would be ok cause he was quite pink.

We didn't hear any crying but toadlet was ok.. and was a boy! I asked them too give DP first cuddle while they finished doing what they had to on me. (I had 3 internal vaginal stitches.).

Had a cuddle with Monty 10 minutes later. he looks identical to DP, same nose eyes, mouth and eyebrows. Looking at him I would never have picked him out of a line up to be my baby. I always tease DP about having ginger body hair, and when the OB said "he's got ginger hair" I couldn't stop laughing. They wanted me to stay over night cause of Toadlet's ventouse but was allowed to go home that evening. Happy to be home after 32 hours of labour.
