My daughter will be 5 weeks old on Wednesday (14th)
The can says 2wks-2mths 120ml...my daughter drinks up to 100ml per feed BUT she likes "top up" feeds which can vary from 20ml-80ml..it wastes the formula! lol but what I am wondering is, is this the right amount she should be drinking for her age? and how do i cut out these "top up" feeds? it is driving me insane!! Luckily for me she doesn't want a top up feed at night time, it is only during the day.

Hi Tamara
My DD will be 4weeks old on thursday and she does the same thing some days. I try and have at least 3hours between her feeds, any less than that and she only has between 60-90mls each time, she drinks the full 120mls normally.
If she seems hungry and it has been less than 3hrs I can sometimes distract her for a little while by giving her a bath or going for a walk outside. Sometimes she goes back to sleep for a while, other times she wakes up as soon as I lay her down.
Our bubs are still sooo little, I try and have a bit of a routine, but if she's hungry then I give her a bottle. If they were breastfed then we would have no idea how much they were drinking at each feed, and I know of alot of breastfed bubs who fed every 2hours for the first few months.
Try not to worry, just feed her when she is hungry. If you are worried about wasting formula, coz I know how expensive it can get, maybe just make up some in a jug and keep it in the fridge, then you can pour smaller amounts into each bottle.

Yeah we actually make about 600ml into a jug for the day time as I just don't have the time to hang around scooping out the formula while she is screaming for a feed. During the day she feeds every 2-4 hours, no longer than 4. But most of the time she just wants her top up feed, and when she goes about 3-4 hours she will drink about 100ml sometimes close to 120ml.

If you really want to stop the top up feeds, do whatever you can to distract her when she cries for food in between. Obviously I don't mean let her scream and cry til it has been close to 3hours, even if you can just distract her for 15mins by giving her a bath...our baths usually take 30mins coz Sienna loves them :) She'll probably surprise you one day and suddenly stop needing the little feeds.
How often does she feed thru the night? Sienna will feed every 3-4.5hours thru the day, but wake up every 3hrs at night...I think she is a little confused about day and night

yup we switched from s26 gold to karicare (plain with blue lid, or you could go gold) and DS had no dramas with the change. I find the 50mL/100mL/150mL thing a good amount to feed bub. You can buy sachets of it at first if you want to try it without investing in a huge tin to see how bub takes to it.

I like the jug idea too, because you know roughly how much bub should take in a day and can spread it out as needed. Good tip!

At night Amelia will go to bed (have her night feed) around 9ish and then wakes up at around 3am then again around 6-7am...she's a good night sleeper but during the day she will only have 10-15 mins here and there and in the mean time she will want my attention so i don't get alot done at all lol
