I went to a wedding yesterday and as almost everyone there had a child under 8, recieved lots and lots (and lots and lots) of advice. :p

One piece of advice that was backed up by (almost) everyone there was to get some 'Infants Friend' - apparently it helps with all kinds of things - but I was just wondering, has anyone here used it? Have you found it helpful? Do you know what age it can be used from? Basically, was it good or bad, and did it help or not?

Thanks all.

I had a constant supply of it in the first 6 months of my bubs life. It worked fantastically for him with wind, a few drops and he would burp or fart instantly and would be happy as a larry :) I gave it too him after his feeds or before and it helped to relieve his wind pains. Apperently it's good for teething too, but we just battled through that with teething toys and panadole when extreemely bad.
It was great - it smells good too, and seems much nicer then gripe water which Noah hated. It can be hard to get sometimes though the chemist seemed to sell out all the time cause it's so good :D I think it can be use from the start but you'd have to check with the pharmacy staff, I know Noah fairly young cause he was prem and I was told to give him less than the recommended dose to start with

Fabulous stuff! It's hard to find though, so scout around now if you can. I'd get a bottle and have it in the cupboard just in case. We used it from very early days (maybe week 2?? cant remember exactly) and it was terrific for wind and tummy pains.

Nup, didn't work for us either, tried Infacol too, no luck. Ended up using a specially made herbal mixture from a chemist. Worked beautifully!

hey :)

infants friend is MY best friend!!!! I hadn't heard of it till a CHN recommended it to me - it had settled Jack so well!! for the first week at home he screamed every night... one night for 6 hours (through a feed and all!!!) - we haven't had that problem again..

he does get the occasional wind pain.. but nothing like before!!!

it smells pretty good too (the aniseed oil .. smells like licorice!! )

from the infants friends www (http://www.infantsfriend.com.au/index.asp)

3. Does Infants' Friend contain Alcohol?
Yes - about 0.4%, this is 6 or 7 drops in the whole bottle. The base is purified water (oils and water don't mix). Government only requires alcohol to be listed on the label if more than 3%

just to keep in mind.

also makes you wonder what else contains up to 3% alchohol in it

if that is the case WHY DOESN"T IT HELP HIM SLEEP!!!!! :D

just joking... it is a little scary that they dont have to write that on the bottle though... it didn't even occur to me that it would have an alcohol content!!

It worked wonders for our first bub.
But when we tried it on our second bub, some of it dribbled down his chin and left a red rash - that looked almost like a burn. Needless to say we stoped giving it to him and gave him gripe water, which was great for him (but hadn't worked for number one son)

I bought some of this yesterday to give to my son because he has had very bad wind but when I read the instructions, it said to give a few drops, but there was no dropper supplied.

Do you buy this separately at the chemist? Are all droppers the same?

You'd probably have to get it off the chemist.
I was actually checking out the Brauer range today, got some great 'Teething Relief' for my bubs - works an absolute treat!!!

yup - you have to get the dropper from the chemist... they range from about 4 to 8 dollars (we bought to more expensive one as it had the ml markings as well - we figured it would be more helpful in the future...)

I STILL adore Infants Friend.. I'm kinda scared to stop giving it to him!!! wind is SOOO horrible in babies!!! (makes mummies sad:()

I found Infant's Friend about as useful as my mother-in-law.

We used Marina Infant Mixture which is a homeopathic remedy. It never failed to bring up a good burp!

Does anyone know from what age bubs can have infants friend?

On the website it says:

Dosage
Shake the bottle
-Infants to a month old, 5 to 10 drops
-from 1 to 3 months old, 10 to 20 drops
-from 3 to 6 months old, 20 to 30 drops
-above 6 and up to 12 months, 5ml.

So I guess that means from newborns??
