Hi everyone,

Ive decided i need to work out my financial area of life..

i currently get paid weekly.... one week i get $360, the next $480.:o

i pay $160 a week rent, at the moment im finding it hard to get on top of the bills, because after i pay the rent and work out what needs to go on food, bills and other necessities (sp?) i cant fit it all into be paid....

So i was thinking if i could get centrelink to pay me the whole lot one week a fortnight then i could pay the rent, bills and have enough for food then budget the rest out for the 2 weeks?

What do you guys think? what do u think would be easiest and id u have any tips id love to hear them!

Thanks heaps.:)

(not that i see it cause it pays my car loan )

but i think its harder to budget for a f/n than a week
but thats just me personally

I think it would be easier weekly. But we get paid monthly which is a huge pain in the butt...so I would say anything shorter than a month:rolleyes:

Hi Guys,
I just used the estimator for both Centrelink and Family assistance and it said that I would be getting $309 a fortnight for payment if im not working . My husbands salary is $42000.
Does this seem to much? or is this about right?

Belle, I posted details of how Centrelink work out the $$ side of things in the other thread...

For me personally, I have found it easier fortnightly, when we were living ono very little money, getting paid fornightly we stuck to our budget, and bills were not a problem, as we pay $50 for each bill (electricity, phone, internet etc) and make loan repayments and pay rent per fortnight...and do one shop for groceries....as you know you have to limit yourself and be strong

Now I get paid weekly and dp gets paid fortnightly, we dont stick to our budget, I seem to go shopping each week, and although the bills are still getting taken care of same as before, we spend more money than we are saving on groceries and stuff thats not really needed....

JMO and experience, so yeah I say its easier fortnightly..

I was paid monthly by work and going to Centrelink fortnightly I think is worse, I would prefer to be paid monthly actually. I can pay my bills in one hit and pay a month of rent and then the rest goes to groceries... I actually wish Centrelink had a monthly pay option... It's going to be so hard to go from fortnightly back to monthly in July!

Given a choice of weekly or fortnightly, I'd take fortnightly. I didn't know Centrelink gave you the option of weekly payments...

Belle, when my DP was working on about 40k I was getting $380/ fortnight.. But that included rent assistance :)

But otherwise, I'd say fortnightly. You get more money in one lot, so it is easier to put the whole fortnightly amount on something. I find that being paid weekly means one week you spend all the money on bills and food etc but the next week you end up using it all for something fortnightly ie rent. Like if I don't put rent money aside fortnightly, I end up using everything we have for when rent is due, leaving us with barely anything until next fortnight.... :o
But Centrelink should be paying you all together, I think? Just ask, they'll do it for you. You can even state which day you'd like to get paid.

hey im not to sure how it works but u can get a budget card and they take little bits of money out a week so by the time the bill is due in it should be mostly paid for
