We are interested in hiring at doula - either qualified or in training for the birth of our first child in early september - at the private hosp in ipswich.
Just wanting to hear from anyone who is available or who has used someone who services this area?
We are interested in finding out what service is provided, any fees/costs involved, and then getting to know the general vibe of the doula IYKWIM.
Thanks

Hi Shirls,
Congratulations on your BFP! You must be really excited. My name is Claire. I am on the Gold Coast, but I do go out to Ipswich. ( I have had 3 births out there, all fantastic) I am not sure if any of the Brisbane ladies go out that far, but I can find out for you if you would like. It is always a good idea to meet a few and decide on the one you feel most comfortable with.
The sort of services provided are:
The Typical Doula Package Includes
· Four antenatal visits to the woman’s home of approximately 2 hours per visit
· 24 hour on-call for two weeks before and two weeks after the due date
· Full support in labour with primary doula for up to 18 hours or whatever is deemed safe
· Back-up doula if necessary
· One postnatal visit to the hospital of approximately one hour
· Two postnatal visits to the woman’s home of approximately 2 to 2.5 hours
· Unlimited use of Doula resources including: books, articles, CD’s and DVD’s
· “Journey to Motherhood” Journal
· Relaxation Journey CD
· Birth Photography if requested
· Your Birth story as written from your doulas perspective.
All this includes a lot of information about normal birth, how the brain, body and hormones function in labour and how to make the most of it. Massage, sacral pressure, using hot packs, aromatherapy, homeopathics and flower essences amoung other things to help you achieve your dream birth. Emotional support, which I have found to be a huge part of being a doula. Helping create a happy, positive & safe environment for birth. Help with bonding with baby, establishing breastfeeding and settling techniques.
The costs vary (some may charge for travel time or extra services) but you are looking around the $1,000 mark.
Feel free to PM me if you have any queries, would like to chat to any past clients of mine in the area or want to catch up for a coffee & a chance to meet at some stage.
