Hi Ladies,

I'm after your assistance...again!!

I'm slowly getting my B/F issues resolved (YAY!) but I have a really fast let down which is causing my DS to gulp and gag....thus causing him some discomfort later with wind.

I take him off when he starts gulping (and for a burp) but he screams bl**dy murder cos I took his boob away......

An tips on slowing down my flow? Is that even possible?

I'm reluctant to express a bit before hand as I have an abundance of milk and don't really want to encourage any more

Thanks :)

I have lots of milk and a fast let down and this is what I do...

Express- when my boobs are really full I express abit into a facewasher or handtowel. Bubs usually stares at me and gets a bit grizzly as she waits. But i find that If I dont do this she chokes and gets lots and lots of foremilk and has really gassy poo.

I feed her laying down, belly to belly. She ike this one the best because she can let the milk run down out of her mouth and doesnt have to detach. I basically have to sleep with a towel under me to do night feed and so my sheet is not always wet.

Babies get used to it. My bubs chokes almost everytime but she doesnt cry anymore.

I overheard a health nurse telling one of the mum's in my group to position herself leaning back into the chair more to slow down the flow. Never tried it as my let down or flow is not fast. Hope this helps.

Thanks dragonflyblu and coogeemum..... :)

Dragonflyblu - When you say your bub has gassy poo is that when it's all runny and makes a lot of noise when it's coming out (sorry tmi)?

I had that with both of mine, and they got the hang of it, just takes them a bit longer to get used to it I think.
But I was told too to lie backwards to try and stem the flow....

Thanks Nuddle.......how old were your two when it settled down?

I've tried lying back but it doesn't really work....who would have thought having too much milk was a problem :p

Not long for you now!! All the best!!

Not long for you now!! All the best!! I Think from memory it was around the 6 week mark, where I could stop using the cloth nappy on the other side as I would loose so much milk. the letdown stayed fast, but the milk supply settled down, I think the kids just got used to it...

This is a bit yuck... but... by gassy poo i mean that she poos and farts at the same time and the poo is lots of bubbles. Yep, pooey bubbles.

My bubs is 11 weeks now and my milk supply has calmed down but it is still fast and she still gags but she is used to it. I could never do the leaning back thing either.

I fed laying on my side with the cloth nappy under us too....

My milk would let down so fast it would spray across the room! Cracked me up the first time it happened...DD was not impressed though.

I found that by laying down on my side and feeding tummy to tummy slowed it down enough that they could cope with it, until they were big enough that it didnt matter how fast it flowed, it still wasnt fast enough!
