My 12 week old daughter has been diagnosed with reflux today and has been put on Losec. However we forgot to tell the pediatrician about a slight lump we noticed on the right side of her belly button. The GP has said she has a slight umbilicial hernia, but has said it should resolve itself.
She also has irregular bowel motions every 5-7 days with difficulty although the result is always normal mustard liquidy...stuff
Lately she has been hitting the right side of her belly and crying out of the blue in what seems like pain.
We know we need to talk to the pediatrician again on monday, but in the meantime does anyone know of what may be causing this slight rise on the right of her belly button?

We dont really know whether the reflux and the hitting of the tummy/bowel motions/hernia are all linked.

Thanks in advance,
the paranoid parents. :o

Hi

gosh, that sounds very definitely like a question for the paediatrician. Given that the dr thinks she has an umbilical hernia, I would guess the slight rise next to her belly button is that. If it is causing her pain out of th blue, it definitely needs to be mentioned to the dr.

It would be hard to say whether the reflux is related in any way. The bowel motions can be related to reflux, which is quite common in refluxers, but perhaps they are related the hernia too. I have no idea, sorry.

I hope you have some success with the Losec- it isn't an easy medication to give a baby, that's for sure. If you need any ideas with that, just let me know and I may be able to offer some suggestions. Is she taking the suspension or the capsules?

Sorry I'm not able to help any further, but I hope you get some answers. It's perfectly okay, by the way, to be 'paranoid' about it all. You are parents, and that's what parents do!!! You have concerns about your child- I don't see anything wrong with that!!

Hey Glenda,
thankyou for your reply, we are disolving one tablet of Losec in 6 mls of water and then giving her 3 mls of the solution. I think we are mainly just kicking ourselves for not telling the pediatrician this morning. Thanks for the support tho!

No worries,
I have done that myself, and it's hard not to beat yourself up about it :)
I eventually resorted to writing a list of things I wanted to talk about- may have looked a bit odd, but at least I never did that again,

hope you get your answrs
