View Full Version : To change jobs or not while ttc ...
Hello everyone,
Just have a question that I need help with - I'm thinking of changing jobs as I am not really happy where I am currently, only thing is that I am ttc and I am not sure if I should stay or not.
My current boss knows I am ttc (as I've had to disappear for appointments with fs here and there and I'd run out of excuses to why I was always popping out) and he is fine with it and has told me that I can take time off for appts whenever needed.
New boss might not be so accommodating! But then I think, it might take months or years (:fingerscrossed: not) to get pg and so I could be staying where I am unhappy for no good reason.
Maternity leave benefits aren;t really an issue as we don;t have paid m/l anyway.
So, wise ones... I need to pick your brains for your thoughts and ideas as I am going crazy! :banghead:

I have just accepted a new job and I'm about to start fertility treatment. It's a gamble though and we'll just have to take one day at a time. My FS has early morning appointments though so will be able to fit them in before work. I think the secret is to continue to live to the fullest. So I'd say go for it. Why be miserable somewhere if you can be happier somewhere else. Life is so short.

when you go for a new job maybe tell them that ur ttc and need to see a FS and that u may need to take time off now and again and if u get the job wooo hoo thay already know if not just keep at this job till u get a new one that way ur not out of pays and money ur 'old' boss lets u have time off for ur FS and u can still job hunt and the 'new' boss already knows befor thay take you on for the job
I'm in a similar situation. I'm down to the last 2 candidates for a position...and I am also in the midst of TTC.
It's not that I"m unhappy in my current job, but this new position (in a new company) is a great opportunity to climb that corporate ladder...and I've also been where I'm at for AGES.
I have paid maternity leave where I am at, and if I started at the new place I probably wouldn't get it...and if I fell pg this month, then I may not even get the unpaid maternity leave because I won't have been there 12 months by the time the baby arrives.
If I get offered the job, I am going to have have a BIG think about whether or not to accept it.
Thank you for all your thoughts! It's sooo good to know I am not the only one out there who is going through this - most of my friends were pg within the first week of trying (well, it seemed like it!! lol! and they can't understand my dilemma)
Like you said, you can't sit and wait and put life on hold while ttc, so I am going to for it!
New job here I come!! :smiliedance:
Como - Well done! :yelclap: :smiliedance:
Good luck! :fingerscrossed:
I start my new job on 2 April!
Prudie - if I were going to miss out on paid maternity leave then I think that would have definitely made it a harder decision. I guess you just have to decide what is mort important to you. I'm not worried about missing out on the unpaid mat leave as it's not difficult in my industry to find work. Good luck.
Hey MJ, how are things going?
Still at my old jobby. I figured that since we're strting IVF next month, it was just going to be too difficult to take on a brand new job with all the time I'm going to have to take off.
Thinking of doing some part time courses in the mean time though, so I can keep my skills at a decent level and keep my brain occupied.
Wouldn't have thought that so many ladies would be in the same situation job wise!
Good luck to all of you girls going for new jobs!
Hey Lil
All the best for your IVF treatment. I am starting FSH Injections next month. My FS starts work at 7.00 am though so I can schedule my appointments before work. I also purposely chose a FS close to where my new job is. Another two weeks until I start - eeek!

I agree with you about changing jobs. DH and I have decided to stop putting our lives on hold "just in case". It has been a hard enough road without making other sacrifices.
I think you need to do what is best for you career wise, and personally. I know with my Clomid treatment I have felt quite depressed, so it is important for me to get on with other aspects of my life...career, buying a house.
When we finally fall pregnant with our first beautiful child, we will deal with potential problems them. Go for it! You need to be happy to get pregnant anyway!!!
Hey Julie,
Soooo stoked for you that your new job is just around the corner. It's almost like fate that you've managed to find somewhere so close to you FS and that your FS starts early enough that you can pop in before work.
Fantastic news!
Let me know how you go honey. Good luck (with the job and the FT).

Hey Julie,
Yes, you are sooo lucky that your fs is near your work and home! Mine is not too far from work, but hard to get appts so have to take whatever time he's got - and often these are during the middle of the workday!
Will have to start thinking of new excuses for my new boss as to why I need to step out at 2.00pm etc ..... lol! Hmm, better start thinking soon, i start trying clomid next month!
:fingerscrossed: for us all!
