OK, so I joined Bubhub over a year ago whe we found we were being moved with dh's job. I come from Sussex originally, dh from teh cotwolds and we lived in Market Harborough (Leicestershire).
We have moved to Hobart, you know that city in Tasmania which is the island state on the south (amazing how many aussies don't know that let alone brits who keep saying we have moved to Tanzania!!!)
We found out 2 days before christmas 2005 we were coming, dh came out on the 6 th January, I followed with the kids on the 14 th February, I left our house mid renovations, with the builders from Bodgit and Scarper on the job so was a little ill at ease. Trying to ship stuff for just one year was so hard! It was a very stressful few weeks and not much time to get things organised so a lot of stuff has just been 'left'.
Anyway, we have been here a year, we were only meant to be here a year and there are no foreseeable plans to return before June '08. Our house is sitting empty back in the Uk, empty that is from people but totally full of all our stuff which I MISS so much. I thought I could do without things for a year, which I have, but now I WANT my things!
A colleague of dh is moving out here and has half a container empty and we can use it so long as we can get it to Essex in the next few days! I have just been on the phone to my mum and she has walked around my house whilst I have been telling her to get that shipped, get this shipped etc etc. One and a half hours phoning her mobile - ouch that is going to hurt!
So hopefully in a few weeks I shall have a few more of my things and the kids will actually have some books and toys!
There is so much I miss about home, I miss our village I miss my gorgeous home, I miss dresssing all snuggly for cold winters, I miss central heating (Tasmanian houses are fitted out like a house in Qld yet a climate more like the uk!!), I miss walkers crisps too and those vegetable crisp that had come out, I iss Ocado online grocery shopping, I have marmite and chocolate sent out to me (vegemite is offensive!), I miss quaint towns, I miss family and friends, I miss being able to pop over to France to see my dad or have a holiday (it is hard to 'pop' anywhere in Tasmania).
I do love Tasmania though, it is gorgeous here and a beautiful place to bring up the kids. The opportunities for them are so great here and they have settled so well. We are happy here so all is good!
Having said that I fly back to the UK on the 19th May for five whole weeks, it will be the first time me and the boys have gone back since we have been here, we will get to see one of our gorgeous dogs (my little dog died whilst we out here) and it will such fun catching up with everyone again. I am slightly wary though that it won;t be as good as is expected as people move on and life there didn't stop just because I left.
I still cannot belive that after a year on (and off) bub hub I ahve noticed this forum before - I am such a dumbo!
Great to read all your threads, they make me laugh, we all miss the same things!
