There's a huge black storm coming over the north west too. I'm just hoping it'll cool things down!

Well the sky dosn't look to great, not raining yet though. We actually got hail here the other day, first time since I have lived here.
Looks like I won't be going to Chermside late night shopping tonight in this weather.

Well in Ipswich the storm was quite thrilling really!!
The sky was dark turquoise ( but it didn't hail) & my goodness the wind was so strong that the whole house & the windows were shaking!!
Ds kept saying "in the sky", "ooh". Was very cute!!
I love storms!! I would've sat out on the deck if ds wasn't around... he was a little scared!!
At least it cooled the place down a little!!
oh that storm was HELL ... in Browns Plains anyway..
I was driving (with Jack in the car) - when it SLAMMED us on Beaudesert Road... it was REALLY scary (I prayed the whole way home!) ... it was our first storm in the car... and Jack slept through the whole thing !! the rain was coming from all directions... huge winds and branches blowing across the road!!!
I think I did 10 k an hour down my street!! - I was SO relieved to get home...
hope everyone in the area was safe!!!

Well I love storms too :D . All bar this one, it was the first time I kinda got a bit scared (since moving here last July).
The thunder and lightening was constant and loud like a freight train .
The water is ankle deep in our car port. I was worried we were going to have a flash flood! :(
Hubby rang me from work afterwards and said there was a mini tornado at Mt Gravatt or somewhere around there! Freaky. Was definately a biggy!
Wasn't the sky a funny colour? Thought it would hail, but nope. Just lots of water!
Glad you got home ok Veve. I hate being in the car caught in storm. Can be pretty scary especially when your visibilty is like 0 with the force of the rain!

We were sitting in the food court at Strathpine and didn't even know it was raining until the power dipped and the generators came on.
Then we looked outside and saw the trees almost getting blown in half by the wind.
When we got home there was about 3 inches of water leading up to the front steps so there must have been one hell of a downpour (and we didn't even hear it, lol).
There were huge puddles all along the side of the road on the drive home too so it hit everywhere, must have been a doozy!!
I looked out of my front door and thought we were in for an apocalyptic storm but I had only about 5 minutes of rain and that was the end of it - something of a let down really...

Well here's the photos i took from our house in greenbank.
Turns out that a tree fell on some power lines in Hillcrest and blew a transformer... blacking out Browns Plains, Heritage Park, Regents Park, Greenbank, Boronia Heights, Hillcrest and Park Ridge (just to name a few)...
We ended up at Grand Plaza, as i still had to do my grocery shopping, and when we were driving there Mt Lindsey Highway had no lights or even traffic lights on the exits. And to top it off, all these idiot teenagers in import cars where racing each other in the dark
Well anyway here's the pics

Here are some really cool websites where you can keep track of storms and see how bad they are/where they are coming from etc.
http://mirror.bom.gov.au/products/IDR503.loop.shtml#image
http://theweather.news.com.au/radar.jsp?code=043
http://info.energex.com.au/tracker/asp/lightningtracker.asp
http://www.weatherzone.com.au/local/local.jsp?obs=94580&fcast=94580&img=radar&rad=050&pcode=4209
These are just the shortcuts I use, but if you aren't in SE Qld, most of them will show you other locations.
I like the bom and the energex sites the best. The energex site is really cool because you can see where lightening has struck - last night is was a huge big white blob moving North East.
Have fun
WOW that storm was great :D
veve, you poor thing getting caught in that storm, and on that horrible road too. I heard that a few of the road signs on Beaudesert Rd actually came off and blew onto the road
I was driving from Greenbank back to Regents Park to pick DS up from daycare and hopefully get home before it hit, but we didn't make it and we were stranded at daycare for the worst of it.
When we got home we had tree branches all over the place, we have 2.5acres in Hillcrest so there was lots...and one tree that had snaped in half, but not completly, so it was kinda just hanging there not quite touching the ground...
We also had no power for ages...I went to bed at 9ish and woke up at midnight to feed DD, still no power...then woke up again at around 2am and they finally had the power back on...
I also heard on the news this morning that two people died coz of the storm.

I was amazed by the colour of the sky. It was a really dark green colour and then as it went overhead, it got purple. We only got the side of the storm, but the thunder was loud enough....I'm still waiting for one loan tree to be either hit by lightning or blown over in the wind. Maybe tonight.....

I was talking to my boss this morning and he said that he was standing out the back of work yesterday afternoon and the building got struck by lightning while he was in it.
He's a christian and he said 'I pooped myself', lol.
Let me assure you I would have used much stronger words, christian or not if I'd been standing in a building that was struck by lightning.
This was in Kallangur, North of Brisbane
