I was just wondering if you ladies were aware that you can ask the council to provide you with extra wheelie bins if you have a large family?
I asked ours for an extra rubbish and recycling bin and they provided them free of charge and they are now saving us a lot of headaches.

Do you know what they consider as a large family?
Ours is always so full by rubbish day!

There is only 5 of us (for the next couple of weeks anyway) and they gave us one......so I'd say 5 people and over. Call and ask anyway.

that could come in very handy.
at the moment we are using the one next door on occasion as the owner is selling his house and they moved out. he lets us fill it up if we put the bins out and bring them back in for him. :D

Our council only provides extra recycling bins free of charge, garbage bins cost a fair bit extra. The extra recycling bin really helps out though! :)

I asked our council for more bins but the increase your rates by $60 a year!
I'd rather just do the shuffle into neighbours bins on bin night!!!

no its not fair!! The extra recycling bin which most will provide for free though really does help for those that need some more bin space! :D

My recycling bin was filled to the top by yesterday and it doesn't get emptied until this coming Thursday, so I am so glad that I have 2 of them now. :yelclap: I wont have to put one of the kids in it and tell them to jump up and down a few times, lol.

haha i get df to do that or he cuts them up and puts one inside another :)
maybe only 2-3 times a year we have our bins full up to the top and overflowing, but thats usually if we forget to take them out one week.
I take the extra to mums and my sisters LOL, but thats very very rarely.

Thank you so much angel kisses. I will ring them first thing tomorrow. We are so sick of bin hopping every week to find bins to put our extra rubbish in that won't fit in our bin. There are 5 kids and 2 adults in our house and is a very big problem. You are an angel. I'll tell you how I go with the request. Thanks again. :yelclap:

Good luck. I have 4 overflowing bins out on the kerb tonight and we have only been a family of 6 since Saturday......unbelieveable that we make so much rubbish.

Congrats on your new addition. :yelclap:
I rang up the council today regarding an extra bin and they said at the moment we pay $126.20 per year for the bin we have now and if they were to order me an etra bin they would charge me for the 3 months remaining of this financial year and then in June they will charge a further $126.20 per year on top of the $126.20 I'm already paying for the origional one. How unfair. We can't afford that! The government is telling us to have more kids but not helping us out for general hygenic issues. These issues regarding rubbish cannot be avoided when you have 7 people from one family in a household. I rang up my local government rep and they said it was a matter to put to the local council.. GREAT. Back to square one. I live on the tweed coast (Tweed shire concil) and our bin we have is actually your standard wheelie bin with a divide in it for rubbish and recycling. So I have one bin only to put ALL of my rubish in. In otherwords, I don't have a seperate recycling bin like most councils provide. :banghead:

That is just ridiculous!!! VERY unfair of them.
I noticed in Bunnings the other day that they sell wheelie bins. I wonder what the council would do if you brought one and stuck it out on the kerb each week??
Thanks btw!
As far as I know it must be the same colour as the council ones or they don't empty them. Bloody council's and their money making schemes! Our bins have TSC etched on the front. But it may just work. Thanks for your advice. You've got me on a mission now because it's turned into a "IT'S THE PRINCIPLE OF THE THING"
(don't get me on my soap box or I may just not come down lol):devil6:

We shouldn't be punished like that just because we have more than the average 2 kids. It's just not fair.
