I was thinking of getting Steelcraft Regency portacot as it passes a test with Choice magazine, unfortunately it has been discontinued :(

I saw a lot of Steelcraft and Graco portacots in the market and was overwhlemed, they're just too many to choose! I also found one thread talking about how bad Graco and Steelcraft prams are and I doubt their portacots will be any different.

Can someone recommend me a good and safe portacot? I also want to use it as a playpen so safety and durability are very important. Thanks.

I can't remember the brand we have (it lives at my mums) - but it weighs a tonne. My parents in-law also have a portacot which is really light. So if you are planning on taking it "out-and-about" make sure its light enough to lift (I need to hands and it's still very hard to hold up).

I have a steelcraft pram/stroller that I still have issues with, but that doesn't necessarily mean you should wipe the whole company - sometimes these companies just put their name and label on products they have sourced that are manufactured by several completely different other companies.
I have a childcare portacot that has been great - very durable. And (shhhh!) I got it on special at Target - reduced from about $150 to $75! Better still, I've seen it reduced again. It's just your basic model - nothing fancy, but it does the job! :)

I have a Baby Love one (by Target) and absolutely love it. Only problem with it, it didn't have a baby bassinet when I bought last year now it comes with a bassinet but DD love hers she can spend hours at a time playing in it while do housework around the house. She sleeps in it when she stays at my parents overnight. We take to DH's parents house to keep her away from the dogs. It was on special for approx $100. I also have a baby love jogger and love it too

Thanks guys! Now I have more ideas about choosing it. Are all these brands you mentioned safe? I mean, some of them I see in the shop look a bit wobbly. Are they safe to use as a playpen too?

Hey,
I bought a steelcraft one and with the bassinet insert too. It's a great product but my kids hardly used it! Wondering whether to sell it or just hold on to it now!

Busymumof3, which Steelcraft are u talking about? There's quite a few of them come with a bassinet so can you tell me which model? If you want to sell it, I'd be interested to buy so let me know :)

Hi
We have a Steelcraft Ebony portacot and after using it less than ten times it broke on the weekend - a week before we are due to go away. We also have a Steelcraft Ebony pram which makes me swear every time i try to navigate an aisle at the shops which is not completely straight and a metre wide! Guess I got sucked in to going for the reliability of a well known brand! I think there are probably cheaper and more reliable versions around. Lol.:o
