HI, I am looking for a good OB that operates out of Mercy Hospital in Perth. One that gives you more than 5mins and is open to less interventionist tendencies. APparetly a GP works from this hospital - Dr Ian Churchward. Has anyone used a GP in a hospital like that?

Hi Becca7,
I wanted to go to Mercy but ended up at KEMH. When I was looking for an OB, I called the hospital asking for a list of Doctors that deliver there. The I did the call around seeing who was avaliable. Unfortuantely I had no luck finding a free appointment time.
To make matters worse I was calling at 6 weeks pregnant and still couldnt get anybody.
Goodluck finding a fab Doctor!!

Hi Becca
I have an appointment with Dr Thyer (on 6th January) - for a delivery in Mercy. How far along are you? I felt really silly ringing up saying I'm due July next year, but apparently you need to do that. You can go onto the website www.mercygroup.com.au to read the doctors that deliver list. Dr Thyer was my GP's recommendation as he used to work and live in the district my GP is (apparently). I'll let you know what I think in 4weeks :D

my girlfriend had Dr Churchward and thought that he was great. Dr Glen Lewis also goes to Mercy - another friend had him and he turned her baby from breech so that she could have a vaginal delivery.
good luck

Thanks everybody,
well I bit the bullet and can't believe it, i got an appt with Dr GLenn Lewis for mid Jan. I'm due Aug 15. I knew I had to get onto this early 'cause last time I missed out on a recommended OB and wasn't super happy with the one i went with.
I'm impressed re Dr Lewis turning a breech - wow! I've also heard from other sources that he's a nice person...
so we'll see!

Hi Bec,
I have been seeing Dr. Lewis since late last year for my ob visits, he is nice, the first time i went i wasn't there very long, about 10 minutes and it seemed really expensive $170 for first visit of which i got about $70 back from medicare, the second visit i had about 30 questions and he took the time to answer all of them and visits only cost $70 now of which i get about $32 back from medicare, each visit he examines my bump and does a quick scan to check on bub, weighs me and blood pressure and all that. at 32 weeks he charges a planning and management fee of $700 of which you'll get back about $100 from medicare, i have no idea what this is for but it seems to be the normal charge for obs. He also refers his patients to a private scanning clinic which is fairly expensive about $100 a time, but it's nice to go there because they take a dvd of the scan which you take home as a momento and you can make late evening appointments so hubby never misses out. Dr. Lewis also charges $1600 for a normal vaginal delivery, or $1900 for a c/s, not sure how much of that health insurance provider will cover yet as still have 14 weeks to go. I've had no probs with him though, he's nice, but like most specialists, you're in and out and out of pocket.
THis thread is from December 2005, I suspect becca7 has the information she needs by now.
