hi girls

We have bought a 2.5 tog grobag for our little 5 month old baby...last night we tried it out but I have a few questions...

We still had to put a sheet on top of her and tuck towels down the cot to keep her in because she wriggles to the top of the cot and then bumps her head and cries..anyone else do this?

also, with the 2.5 tog, I know the nights are getting cooler, but when she goes to bed at 7pm its still warm......she didnt seem hot last night when we put her in it.....

I guess I just want to know your opinions/ideas on them.......I am thinking maybe I should have bought the lighter 1.0 tog but this seemed too light for winter and I dont really want to buy 2 of them....

thanks girls

Not sure what the temp is in her room, but I was using a 1.0 tog in Sydney and no blankets and my DD still sweated!

Now we're living in the UK and we use a 2.5 tog

I'd say she might be getting to hot

I'd say so, they are darn expensive though! Sometimes Babies Galore have specials on the grobags though or living textiles make a similar one bit cheaper I think!

If I think it's going to be cooler in the night, I put my DD in full lenght bodysuit and in the unzipped 1.0 tog Grobag, then I zipp her up as it gets cooler, usually around 4 AM ( yes, I am crazy enough to set my alarm on - the things you do for your baby ;) , I am so scared of her overheating, SIDS and all that !!! ) I am only planning to use 2.5 tog in winter, when it gets colder. She is a very hot baby, so I can't follow the Grobag reccomendation, I tried once but she got wet on her back. So it's very individual.
Hope it helps. BTW I got my Grobag from David Jones they had 20 % off, but I am not sure until when, but it may be a good idea to give them a ring  They also had another brand - Mama's and Papa's on sale, it was half price !!!

Hi Mary:)

I have the 1.0 TOG Grobag. It says on the packet if the nursery temperature is 24 degrees, dress bubs in a short sleeved bodysuit in the 1.0 Grobag.

You can get these Grobag Egg thermometers which change colour when the nursery temp changes.

Anything under 20 degrees nursery temperature you can use a 2.5 TOG bag. The one you have should be great for winter with a long sleeved bodysuit underneath.

The Grobag website has all the details on there if you want to check it out:thumbsup:

Hi Mary

With regards to your DD bumping her head on the cot bars you could invest in a product called Airwrap.

It's basically a breathable cot bumper with a little bit of padding. Here's the details:

I definitely don't trust that thermometer! Mine seems permanently stuck on 27 degs!

I think with grobags you really do need all the different togs, as expensive as that is. I'm in Sydney and at the moment J's in the 0.5 tog but wearing long sleeves. It's possibly a little chilly but it doesn't seem to be bothering him and i'd rather he be on the cold side than the hot side.

The only other tog I have is the 1.0 - I'm not sure it ever gets cold enough in Aus for the 2.5 - maybe in the absolute dead of winter...

we use a 1 tog growbag. i hd to start off at the beginning tucking dd under a sheet as well to transition her out of being wrapped. now she sleeps just in the bag fine. they do seem to get sweaty pretty easily at the moment. i saw cheaper versions at myer a little while ago.

there's something strange about my ds, cos he's still too cold in a 2.5tog when it's cool, at about 18degC or so. he's in a growsuit in it, and we still have to put blankets over the whole thing.

Can I ask how much the grobags cost and where can you get them from?

the grobags are pretty long, can you just tuck it into the end of the cot like a blanket? You could also try getting another one of ebay, the resale value are pretty good too if you sold the one you have and got a lighter one.

they cost around $80ish from memory ( i got mine on sale for $50), most baby shops have them and i have seen them sell on ebay anywhere from $40 up

For sydney winter would you get a 2.5tog?

hello

the 2.5 tog is really only for winter (18 degrees and under).....I think I am going to buy a lighter 1.0 tog and then dress her accordingly depending on the temperature.....

thanks for all the advice everyone

I suppose Brisbane would be warmer than Sydney and DS wore the 2.5 tog gro-bag heaps last winter. So, yes.

Thanks len. I just bought a 2.5tog and a 1 tog from bambinipronto. $50 each..not bad! DD always kicks her blankets off so this is a great solution

Just a word of warning... dont trust the cardbaord thermometer that comes with the grobag... they dont work!!
I had mine in the UK and first used it in summer and it usually said it was 24 and then winter came and even without heating on and the room was FREEZING it still said 24... put it in the fridge and still said 24!!
So get a proper room thermometer and chuck out the grobag cardboard thing.
