I have had a shocking headcold since Tuesday and every day I have had a headache, sore eyes and panadol isn't helping because I am coughing so badly that it just causes a lot of pressure in my head.
Would it be okay for me to take 1-2 cold and flu tablets a day, say..........6hrs apart??
I am either 35 or 36.5wks pregnant.

I had a really bad cold at 39 weeks and wasn't allowed to take a thing, even now with BF there is still nothing available to take other than Panadol.
As emevity said ring your doctor, or, visit a chemist before you take anything just so you are sure.
ring your doc first like the others have said beause when i was pregnant with jake i had a really bad cold for a month and they wouldnt let me have anything

I had a really bad cold for 6wks when pregnant with Matthew and was told I couldn't take anything. I was told they can induce labour at this stage.
I am getting really desperate this time as I am in so much pain and I am getting such a short fuse with the kids, which isn't fair on them.
My GP isn't in until Wednesday (no GPs work weekends here) and the chemist is closed on weekends too. Might call the hospital and see what they say. I just want 1 tablet to help get me through the day. :gloomy:
ok, sorry did i read right? they can induce labour, meaning you want them to because you have a cold?
I took cold and flu tabs both pregnancies, but i was under 12 weeks and didnt know i was preg both times.
you cant induce labour cos you have a short fuse on the kids,(or can you?) (and pls dont think im being nasty, i understand you must be feeling like cr@p)
ring the hospy and let us know what they say anyway, i hope you feel better soon:hugs:

I never said that I want to take them to induce labour.
I said I want to take them because my head has felt like it is going to explode for the last 5 days straight and panadol is doing absolutely nothing.

I thought 'they' was the hospital
I had a really bad cold before and during the birth of my DD and I went to my chemist and he recommended Brauer products and it help considerably but I would go and see your Doc first.

When I was pregnant last time the doc said that I could take polaramine (the weak one) in the first two trimesters, but not in the third. He said that there is a risk if the baby is born with the drugs in their system still. Check with hospital/doctors, but I think that the answer will be no because you could possibly have the baby soon.
I find that cold packs on my face help a lot because they lessen the inflammation in my sinuses.
Have you tried Fes nasal spray? It's just a saline spray that is safe to use in pregnancy and it clears out your sinuses wonderfully. I've had two nasty colds this pregnancy and Fes has been a life saver!

No, I've never even heard of it. Might go get some tomorrow morning, thanks.
Ooh babe, I wouldnt be able to handle the kids either being that far pregnant, and with a shocking headcold, it wouldnt be pretty.
I take polaramine now, and Im 37 weeks, always have, daily for the last 12 years, and through 5 pregnancies. But not for colds, for hayfever, but it does clear up any congestion I have.
I say try the hot steam bucket, then rest, put Matthew to bed, and go join him tomorrow, hun! forget any housework, anything, your health is way more important! You gotta get rid of that cold before you labour. Panadeine Forte is ok, isnt it? (hope so).

angel_kisses9798,
i know exactly how you feel. I have a horrible head cold at the moment and my head feels like a truck has hit it. Especially at night, for some reason its 3 times worse at night. I have been using aromatherapy to try and alleviate the cold. It clears my nose during the day and makes it bearable. If you vapourise eucalyptus oil and peppermint oil in an oil burner it helps. Or add the oils to bowl of hot water and inhale but close your eyes. You use 2-3 drops each of both oils into half litre of hot water.

I struggled through another 3 days or so of feeling like total ****. Even now, after 3wks, I still don't feel 100%, but I am slowly getting there.
I hope you feel better soon Lisa, it's awful. :hugs:
