Midwives over here in Australia work under very different conditions to those in NZ. We don't have insurance for Midwives over here so the majority work in hospitals or birth centres. The private ones do home births etc but do so without insurance a home birth and visits usually costs anywhere from $2000 upwards. Your options are to try and find a birth centre to get into, birth at a hospital (publicly) birth at a hospital (privately - will need private health insurance or way too expensive) or hire a private midwife to have a home birth. Hope this helps, start by contacting your local hospitals you will generally be cared for by a midwife at those and only seen by a doctor if something is out of the 'normal range'.

Hi Megypregy,
You can also go through the Community Midwifery Program to have a home birth - this is funded by the government. They have centres in Leederville and Fremantle. This is their website address: www.communitymidwiferywa.org.au (http://www.communitymidwiferywa.org.au).
All the best.
