hi all. well my dd1 is in grade 3 this year, and since she has been back at school, she certainly has developed an attitude.

bit of background, dd1 has always been a very good girl, quite shy and generally always does as she is told.

however this last month has nearly driven me crazy. more arguements with dd2. lots of talking back to DH and I, speaking rudely, not listening and the big one - sarcasm! etc etc.

ive asked her if shes having any problems in class, she loves school as well as her friends, she gets along with everybody as well.

any ideas on what it could be? or what i could do?

My ds2 is in grade 4 this year and he was a lot like that last year too.
I think it might be just the age. I just had a few talks to him and explained that that was not how we talked to each other in the house.

He eventually started getting better and is not too bad now. Still tries to push the boundaries sometimes though.

Other than that maybe she has a new little friend that she is copying.
Its hard when they are like this.
Hope she gets back to her sweet little self soon.:fingerscrossed: :hugs:

I have had this too HIGA from my son on and off. I have come to the conclusion that a lot of it is caused by tiredness as I notice it is alway worst in term 1. My son at the moment is pretty fatigued especially after school and he gets so grumpy and rude.

i hadnt thought that maybe its because shes overtired, 1st term and all.

she still gets as much sleep as she always has. will have to see.

i dont think she would be copying anybody, as she doesnt like when anyone copies her, and is adamant that she wouldnt (we have asked her this)

i forgot to mention in my first post, that this year she has 2 seperate teachers. one who works mon, tue and wed and the other thur and fri.

do you think this may have something to do with it?
maybe shes not coping, but she has said to me that she does like it this way:confused:

Higa, sometimes the copying isn't something they notice, it's just a subtle pick up of other mannerisms in their friendship group..
Could also be the age... but yes, overtiredness could be a huge factor.. even though she's getting the same amount of sleep, she's doing more during the day.

I'm seeing a bit of this with DD1 (Year 1), but I honestly don't think that she understands how rude she is. I think that perhaps she talks to her friends this way, but, as her mother, I feel I deserve more respect.

I am trying to teach her what rudeness is and often it is her tone more than what she says. I am having a bit of trouble trying to convey that to a 5yo, but I do think she is starting to "get it". I see her mentally backpedalling and changing her tone mid-sentence :D.

At least ATM she's not TRYING to p!ss me off :p

I know, how sad is that decline from Mummy knows EVERYTHING to Mummy knows NOTHING? And they'll think that for DECADES (at least :D)

absolutely terrible isnt it! we really do know, they will realise that once they have gotten over that they think they know everything.

will most likely happen when they are in their 30's, knowing my luck!

I think it is true what Seekrit says that Grade 3 is demanding, it is the first year I have noticed that it is starting to get more serious and the kids are pushed a bit more and encouraged to be more independent.

I know that even if ds is sleeping well, he goes to bed at 7:30 and up at 6, in that first term it is still not quite enough but he won't sleep during the day:no:

i know grade 3 is certainly more serious. dd1 normally goes to bed at 7pm, and generally sleeps until 630 (unless woken by dd2)

on the weekends when we are home, she will have a sleep, or if we are out, on our way home she always falls asleep in the car.

thanks ladies for your responses. i will just have to see how it all pans out
