View Full Version : My first little Jelly Bean

Found out a few weeks ago that I'm carrying my first....we've dubbed it 'Jelly Bean'. I'm due on the 20th July 2006. Been suffering nausea for weeks but last night was so bad that I had to have some Maxalon. I suffer from PCOS so this has been a long time coming (3 years +).
I have a few questions and I feel like I'm sort of in limbo land with no one I know being pregnant.
I feel my stomach muscles stretching already. Is this normal at 7-8 weeks? Everything tells you you show at 13 weeks but they make it sound like it 'pops' out as opposed to a slow and gradual stretching.
I feel really tired. I went to the movies yesterday and could hardly walk around the shops. I didn't think this would happen so early. I also have times when I feel like I'm being suffocated and I can't breathe well.
I have days when I feel like eating everything in sight and then days of nothing at all.
I have no idea what tests to expect. My doctor said nothing to me except not to have sex and to relax. He said I was a high risk pregnancy but nothing else. I assume this is due to my weight (due to the PCOS). I have a group session with the midwife at Women's and Children Hospital next week but past that ???? Shouldn't there be U/S or blood tests or something?
I don't expect to have control of the whole thing but I feel like I'm flying blind.

Hi Jellybean06,
I can aswer a couple of your questions! Yes it is normal to feel really tired, I found it so hard to hide at work, I used to pretend that I was hungover and that was why my eyes were half shut, I was staring at the computer screen and I ate all day! I am sure your stomach does feel like it is streching, it is! I felt bloated, like I had my period from about 6 weeks I think.
As for test, I went to the hospital at 8 weeks to book in and have my first appointment, they did an ultrasound and I saw my bubs heartbeat., Then at 19 weeks I had another ultrasound, blood tests and glucose tests. I am not sure exactly what and when, I can not seem to remember very well!
I hope that helps a little and perhaps you sould read some of the posts in the pregnancy section. Most topics are covered on this site, everyone is really helpful. Good luck and congrats :)

heya :) Hope all continues to go well. I was dog tired early on in my pregnancy, my ob suggested I try the multi-vitamin Elevit... it worked a treat. Wasn't tired after that at all.... It also calmed down the nausea.

I kind of know where you are coming from when you say that you are flying blind. I am due on the 4th August, so a few weeks behind you, but I dont have my first appointment with the obstetrician until I am 10 weeks. I know that you have the option of having the nuchal scan at around 14 weeks but its for you to decide whether or not you want that. I have so far booked into the mater mothers private under instruction from the obs, I thought that it seemed a bit early, but apparently they fill up quite fast so if you are going private, it might be an idea to do that, at least then it is one less thing to worry about. Other than that, you carer will guide you in what needs to be booked and provide you with the details. In the meantime I guess its just a case of relaxing, enjoying yourself and looking after yourself, once you hit the 14 week mark it seems that ilestones come a lot thicker and faster!
Congratulations by the way!!
ps. When did you start getting morning sickness? I am 6 weeks on wednesday but havent had any morning sickness yet

Hey Stormanet
I was just thinkig today that it is a bit wierd that the tiredness seems to have calmed down, in fact I was getting a bit worried about whether I was supposed to not be feeling tired - that was until I just read your post! I have been taking Elevit for 12 days now and have been feeling less tired since I started taking it. Beforehand i was almost asleep after lunch everyday but now I am fine!
Coool! If Elevit is to thank for that then YAY for Elevit!!!

Thanks everyone! I think (regardless of cost) I should look at Elevit.....my nausea started almost as soon as I fell pregnant.....no vomiting just feeling queezy....walking through the food court at westfield makes me want to barf! :D I'm booked into the WCH in Adelaide. We only have 3 major public hospitals (that deliver) and only the WCH can deal with High Risk but they have the best services anyway. They too book out super quick!
I'm glad I'm not alone with these weird feelings. I thought that the Nuchal test could be done as early as 10 weeks? Is anyone else feeling sick at the idea of what could go wrong and dealing with it all and what happens if you want to give it back? (damn, it's only a one way birth canal! :) ) We've have been trying for so long but now I feel like we were so focused on the getting pregnant part, we forgot about the aftermath!
One thing I have done recently is make a list of all the things I want fixed around the house before the baby comes (sounds like a dinner party!).....anyone else in the middle of renovating madly?
Belinda :)
