Hi ladies

I think my 6mth old DD is constipated... she strained and cried today when trying to do a poo. I've been reading other threads re remedies etc and I am trying everything. As the remedies tend to provide short-term relief, how do you stop your bub getting constipated in the first place? Has anyone changed formula because of constipation? DD is on S26 Gold and I think it is the cause of her constipation (she has started solids but she doesn't eat much). If so, which formula did you change to and did it help?? Did your bub have any reaction/issues with the new formula?

Thanks heaps.

We changed formula with DS about 3 times before we found one that didn't constipate him - that was Nan. Not the Gold one, the normal one which, of course, they stopped making just recently. We had tried Karicare and S26 before that.

With DD we started her straight away on the Nan and she was fine for a while, but as she grew and her system changed she started to have trouble too. When we couldn't buy the normal Nan anymore we changed to Soul Pattinson brand as I refused to buy the Gold version of Nan. Gold versions tend to have a higher iron content which can lead to constipation, or make it worse.

She's still on the SP formula, we didn't bother trying others. Instead we just put Coloxyl drops in each bottle and this keeps things moving for her most of the time.

With DS we also found his settled once he was eating a good variety of fruit and veges. Unfortunately DD still isn't interested in food, so it's still the Coloxyl for her.

DD was also extremely constipated on S26 Gold...we are now on Karicare AR for her reflux and she poos fine!

Thanks! I asked the dr about it when I took DD for immunisation today and the dr suggested NAN. I will give it a go and hopefully it will clear things up for DD!
